1957 Black Widow while still at SEDCO

Here is one I finished off last week. My original plan was to build Rex White's #44 but after laying down my best ever two tone paint scheme, I couldn't bring myself to decal it. If I hadn't converted it to NASCAR specs already, I would have built it as a black and white street car.

Some facts: I used Photo Etch for the four Chevrolet Scripts, and the V on the hood and trunk. It's only the 5th time I've ever used PE parts, and two of those times were pedals-which I simply super glued over the kit pedals. Nothing I've ever done with PE that was this integral to the car before.

Scratchbuilt side boldster for seat, made up of four parts. Scratchbuild headlight covers/blockoffs as the ones Revell provided are nice but not accurate in any way, shape or form. Scratchbuilt exhaust pipes.

Plastic Performance Products tires and wheels, in the proper for racing 6-lug pattern.

Revell only included one taillight so I left them both off, I am hoping to get a copy from one of my friends who has built a bunch of these kits already. I also somehow managed to lose the right side door handle some time between finishing the model on April 30th and taking the pictures on May 2nd.

I took the photos outside because it's a hassle to break out the photo set up and I won't do it unless I have a lot to shoot!

Well, enjoy the pictures..

The decal for the large main gauge was blown away by my high powered fan...

That is one slick looking 57 Billy! Gotta love a well done two tone!

My great uncle had one sitting in his yard for years in two tone blue I'd like to replicate some day!

This is a beautifully done build that represents the SEDCO car quite accurately. Nicely done Billy. I'm attaching a Chevy Classics article on the SEDCO cars and a little known fact about how they became racecars. These Widow's were set up for Daytona Beach racing by a mechanic named Dale Swanson from Harlan, Iowa. Very interesting reading. Keep in mind, the pages are out of sequence.

On edit: my PDF is too large to attach. If you go to www.swanson-automotive.com you'll be able to download the article.

Great job Billy , But sadly the ppp tires and wheels make it look more like a modern street machine then a car from Sedco. They may be six lug but they are way to big to be accurate. Your right to keep the decals off.

On the one I'm throwing together (if I ever get inspired again) I used the wheels, springs,& rear axle housing from the AMT ''55-'57 truck kits as these were what the actual car used, they also used the truck spindles, but on a model you can't tell the difference to I just left those alone. It's just a nit pickin' deal, you did a great job, but on the wheels the ones with the flat space in the center hole go on the rear, that is the axle end, the ones that have the hub actually sticking out are fronts, unless the set you got from ppp are like the ones I got, & came with three rear wheels & one front. <_<
