CAL
We'll see how this goes. A quick look at it and it's going to take a bit more work than the Italeri 250 kit, and the as probably everyone knows by now the kit was modeled after a car that had the entire rear smashed off it ... so the rear body is a IMHO is too high and too wide, but from what I read it was a conscious effort by the folks that did the restoration on it too “improve†the car. It has a fantastic set of wire spoke wheels. I haven’t see anything this finely molded in plastic before, other than the original Protar kit, which this is a reissue of that kit. Zoom Zoom
It's a very under-appreciated kit; it's certainly not going to be as "shake and bake" as the new Fujimi 250; but it's got plenty of detail and should result in a nice replica with careful attention to detail. My main beef w/this kit is the side window frames; they're a bit thick and oddly detailed at the top. The body shape does seem to match the particular car it's based on. And the wheels are amazing for plastic (though Fujimis are as well). Good luck, will be watching this closely!

I already had to do a fair amount of sanding and shaping to get the driver's door in place and lined up with quarter panel correctly. It seems the front end of the door lines up pretty good. But at the rear there a significant step up from door to the quarter. I had to sand part of the top of the frame off to get to fit in the opening so it's not so thick there. Now I have to and look to see what that detail might be.
Brendan
You should paint it pink with purple polkadots. I was looking at maybe getting this kit. I just finished up with the Hasegawa 250 TR. It will be interesting to see what you do with the kit.

I can see daylight through it. Some of it is pretty crude and some of it is outstanding. I never had seperate body parts (doors hood and trunk) fit so snug. Yeah psychedelic - hippie - Ferrari…. I'd like to build a 250 GTO, but dont want something difficult to build, but still looks like a rear car when done... does that make sense?? What scared already.... because I poked a hole in the quarter panel. A little milliputt on the backside fixed er up real fine. If you can find one build the Italeri one, or wait for the new Fujimi release. That Fujimi kit is not out yet. MrObsessive
Hmmm.........I thought the Fujimi kit was out? I see 'em listed on HLJ as "In Stock". Anyway, I'll be watching this one Chris as this is one of my favorite modeling subjects! I have the original Protar kit.............and yes, the wire wheels are amazing for a plastic kit. I'd like to see the 1:1 that it's based on--------it's funny how they "restored" it. I can't imagine them doing that today to what's a multi-million dollar car! Hummm could be, last I saw a few months ago it wasn't yet. I will be keeping my eye on that one too. Yeah, how could you not like a 250 GTO. Back then, in the 60s maybe 70s when it was restored, it was worth that much... it was totaled out X-racer. I guess now it would be too much work to put it back to the way it was. From what I read they were trying to do two things with this car. 1. get bigger tires under it. 2. create more down force. Although aerodynamics on cars was in its infancy I am sure they didn’t know quite what they were doing.
Zoom Zoom
The Fujimi kit is out; I've seen it up close and personal. It's definitely the best plastic kit so far. The biggest "problem" might be an overly simplistic engine block. The kit has about 190 parts; it's quite detailed, but not as fussy as a Fujimi Enthusiast kit, and everything is crisp and clean in a way that no Protar kit could ever be. The body shape is by far the best of all the previous cars. The wheels are incredible. Someone mentioned getting one for $20 from Hobbylink Japan at the IPMS Nat's on the last day (they had F430 Scuderias for $20 that day as well). Here are pics of the Fujimi kit vs. the others. L-R is the Protar (Revell), Gunze, Italeri, and Fujimi. The two trees are Fujimi. Dinoscuderia's description: "Took a couple pics comparing the Fujimi body(far right) with the Italeri, Gunze and Protar. All bodies have the same wheelbase but that's where the similarities end pretty much. The Italeri body is closest to the Fuji in proportion but the Fuji body has the subtle shapes that the Italeri is missing. The Fuji body is more narrow at the rear wheel opening center line than the rest of the bodies but it's a bit wider at the front than the Italeri. The Gunze body is largest in all it's dimensions. Not much more I can add about the body...in my view the Fuji is the best one of all. Anyone who likes the Italeri kit will love the Fuji which is better in every way. Took a couple of tree shots...as you can see the parts are nice and delicate...nothing heavy handed in this kit. I clipped the tube frame from the tree and the interior floor and installed it in the body....it fit perfect, no warp effect." CAL
Well it going to be some work to get this one done. The top of the door is wrong. But I was able to get it fitting much better. Kind of hard to see white on white but out of the box the doors fit terrible. The good thing is it doesn't take too much to get them in. And I fixed the quater. I see the lower rear valence, what there is of it is too square, so I will be adding some evergreen in there and rounding the corner... CAL
working away on it, but I have come to this conclusion. I am just better off building it for what it is and not fix everything. There is just too much to fix.

I really think it could be a great kit man, I will be buying one of them soon and see if I make up my mind and attack one of these projects one of these days!!! Good luck..... CAL
Day 2 Lots of little sub assemblies to build so I been able to keep busy while filler dries, and it's been taking lots of filler. Mostly sink holes. I had to deal with a pretty warped frame and firewall assembly but the plastic is soft and easily bends back into shape. Be careful installing the rear ducts as they kind of fit either side - if they are right they should fit very well and if they are wrong they fit okay. It took me awhile to figure it out - they are almost identical depedning on how you look at them, but not quite, and I though I two of the same side... in any event. I am pretty sure I put mine in backwards which resulted in extra filling and sanding. Nevertheless, in spite of its number of challenges it's so far been rewarding and fun to build. It is definitely not a beginners kit, but if you put some time into it I think it can be a decent build. I would recommend to any intermediate/advanced builder. And with some scratch building it can be improved even more, as some obvious details are missing... like inner door panels. So all you guys who have one or are thinking about getting one go for it. CAL
The kit engine is pretty basic. So I decided to spruce it up a bit. Just some general fluffing up the engine and pumbling. Some more body work Fixed the doors, although to really make it right the frames would have to be totally redone and go up in the roof more. The roof has too much of a bubble to it.
