JollySipper
I would like to try my hand at a paint job like this. What would be best for me to mask off the panels with? I'm pretty sure I should paint a white base coat, then mask off what I want to stay white, but with what? Would BMF work?
Erik Smith
John Goschke built an spectacular T-bird on here - you could try to google search the site and see how he did his paint.
JollySipper
Thanks, man.... I saw John's awesome T-Bird! He used photographic tape cut into thin strips to mask his... If that would be my best route, where can you find this tape?
knarf
i have used a good quality masking tape cut to the desired width/shape with good results. i use an old table top from a glass top end table that i clean and polish really well, then lay the tape down and cut with a straight edge and hobby knife. JollySipper
Would any of you guys happen to have detail shots of this car? Engine, interior, etc...? The guy who built the 1:1 chronicled the build on the H.A.M.B, but the pictures won't show on my computer....... Thanks, fellas.....
JollySipper
I read somewhere that this car was on E Bay at one time. How would I go about finding the listing for it? I'm sure there would be plenty of pics of what I need reference for.... Thank you for any and all help!
Jon Haigwood
when I was painting motorcycle tanks, after I laid down the tape or stencil I would put down a light coat of the base paint or clear then spray the top color.this would help prevent bleed thru on the tape edges.I haven't tried this on a model yet but thought I would mention it
BKcustoms
I'm not sure how much this will help but here's a tutorial I did on paint jobs similar to what you're wanting to do. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=84271
JollySipper
Thanks for the responses, guys.... Billy, thats awesome! Thanks for the link.... The real car has lace in the panels, but I won't try that just yet! Baby steps, you know.....
2002p51
Type the following into a Google image search; "Kirk Jones + May Cause Dangerous" Exactly like that and you'll see plenty of photos. Also if you don't have it, search eBay for issue number 45 of The Rodder's Journal which contains a full feature of the car.
