Delivered mail - "lost"...

I need to tell you about this... A week ago I ordered some PE online, the seller told me that he ship them on September 3rd and sent me an email with tracking number. I almost forgot that I order the PE, so today I check online the status, and it says that it was delivered on September 5th! :( I was home that day, and when to pick up the mail immediately the mail man delivered. Not that I look out a the window waiting for it, like a dog :D, but that day I received also a package and when the mail man left to the porch he rang the doorbell.

I ask one of my neighbor but he did not received it. It is kind of sad, that people keep your mail.

I've only bought one P.E. set (MCG's 1969 Dart GT / GTS) from eBay ; the seller asked if a standard envelope ( typical letter-size ) with some cushioning was okay . I said , "Sure , so long as the fret doesn't get damaged , then that's fine ."

I received the envelope , and I almost threw it out ! The seller's printing on the envelope was so perfect ( like mine is : legible !) that I thought its contents were junk mail (!!) .

Hopefully you didn't unwittingly toss an envelope out that had the P.E. in it (!) . P.E. frets are tiny , even for 1/12 scale kits (unless they include side mouldings or other sizable pieces) .

The PE was in a 7 ½” x 9" yellow bubble wrap envelope, and the label was printed. The PE are between two pieces of thin cardboard. Is not the first time that i buy from this seller, I know how he works and trust him. Probably who got it, and noticed that was not his mail, toss it... :( I should have check it last Friday, but we were going out of town for the weekend, and 1000 thing to prepare.

I'd bet that the carrier scanned the item and accidentally left in someone else's mailbox. It has happened many times before.

Reminds me of the time when I was desperately waiting on a check from a client. I was b-r-o-k-e at the time, and since I was self employed, I needed that cash to buy the next round of orders for other clients. It was a significant check to me, especially at the time, and the amount is still nothing to sneeze at.

Come to find out that the new carrier...my goodness, could they have found a more lame person in the world to carry the mail? Well, that carrier left it in the neighbor's mailbox, who then opened it, and kept it for almost 2 weeks.

"You waiting on a check from ___________? I wondered if you were needing it. We got it the other day, and meant to give it to you."

All the while, I was thinking, "Yeah, right. Our houses are not 25 feet apart, and you couldn't have walked it over, and put it in my box?"

Many people in this world are simply lame, and some of them are full of malice.

I deal with this situation all the time at work. 9 times out of 10 a neighbor got it. Or check your backdoor or porch if you have one you don't use often, they will often stick it there out of sight. Even though it was sent in an envelope it was sent through package service like a box would have been. They may have attempted to deliver to your door. It may have been a different carrier than the other or the one who delivers letters and came at a different time of day.

Not sure what recourse you have with First-Class I would at least try to file a claim with the USPS if you can. I don't like First-Class because it isn't insured like Priority is. We only send low-value stuff First Class.

I can understand that they open it, maybe they did not pay enough attention, but why keep it there for so long. What they gain to do that? :( Make me wonder, how many times it happen with non tracking mail, and this kind of people keep/read your mail.

Agree, pretty sure a neighbor got it. :( We left the house that night around 7:00PM, so I don't think they delivered that mail a that time. Plus it says that was delivered at 2:04PM, and make sense. I check the delivery of the package the mail man left a the door, and it says that was delivered at 2:06PM.

I contact USPS via email, but they did not yet reply me.

I did not chose the shipping method, because I never had any issue before.

I had the same thing happen nearly three weeks ago, by coincidence with a package containing PE parts also. Website tracking says "delivered"; I get home, no package. Next day, I go to the post office; supervisor tells me he will contact my carrier and ask about it. Never heard back. Two days later, I've got another package scheduled for delivery, so I take a couple of hours off work to be home when the mail usually gets delivered (around 1:00 pm). Mailman comes up the street, I meet him to make sure I get that package and ask about the other one. His story just doesn't fit; he tells me he left the package outside when it would easily fit inside my side door. A five-ounce package, left outside...really? My next door neighbor was home all that week, working on his motor home in the street in front of his house. Nobody would have walked up and grabbed that package. I've had hundreds of packages delivered over the years without any losses, including several left inside the door which later blew open tearing the closer bracket out of the door frame because it was not closed on a windy day. I never complained about any of them, just fixed the door, because I didn't want to do anything to make the carrier's job more difficult. First thing this guy says after the iffy story, is that I can fill out a form and keep it on file, to have all my packages held at the post office for pickup. Ding, ding! The guy doesn't want to do package deliveries, so he "loses" a package so that I'll pick them up myself in the future. I've got a bar code sticker with my address over the mail box; the carriers used to scan that when delivering a package, but don't do that anymore. The supervisor told me that most carriers now scan several packages at a time as "delivered" while sorting them inside the postal van. I doubt the guy is a crook...more likely just a lazy screwup. One very costly lesson learned. When I get other peoples' mail, I always hand-deliver it; I was hoping that would translate into good karma this time, but so far, nope...

That's a crazy story Mark. The mailman usually deliver in this area looks pretty smart and do a good job, except that day. :(

@BirdWatcher, I could, but I think a this point is easy to buy a new one.

@ChrisPflug, LOL!!!

I printed out probably 20 flyer and put in some mailboxes and post around here on Friday, but nobody returned my mail. I ask the mailman, but he did not remember my envelope. :( The funny thing is that I contact the USPS by email, and they did not reply, but they sent me an email with a survey, asking about their customer service and if I was happy with the response (that I didn't get)... :rolleyes:

After you contact the Postmaster on something like that and they cannot come up with a legitimate explanation (given to neighbor so-and-so, etc.), then you should make a complaint to the Postal Inspection Service for STOLEN mail. Don't let the letter carrier or the Postmaster slough it off as 'lost,' insist on labeling it as stolen mail by filing a complaint with the Postal Inspectors. They are charged with the responsibility of investigating mail theft, but they don't get involved in lost mail. If the letter carrier is pilfering mail, or 'losing' it so you'll pick up packages at the post office, the Postal Inspectors will likely find additional complaints. Or, they may discover an extraordinarily high percentage of 'lost' mail on the letter carrier's route. Or, the letter carrier may suddenly "find" your lost mail once he/she is contacted by the Postal Inspectors.

Some flies require big hammers. ;)

Here's two stories from my dusty archives...

I was in the process of buying a house and had two days to close on the house before my mortgage commitment, and low rate, expired. The company said they mailed the papers to me, but I didn't receive it. This was before the Internet, and the company was only 10 miles south of me, so I drove to them.

A few weeks later I get the big envelope in the mail... 10 miles between two New Jersey towns by way of Puerto Rico... Envelope had a "missent" stamp on it and a San Juan backstamp!

Second story.. back when I got into models some 25 years ago I had a small ad in Scale Auto looking for Valiant kits. A guy in Denver, whose handwriting looked grade school, sold me one for something like $15 postpaid. Weeks went by and I didn't receive it. I'm back and forth in the mail with this guy who I figured was scamming me. He stopped replying so I just figured I was screwed.

Maybe five years later the people at the end of our cul de sac are moving. A kid of theirs comes to my door and hands me a UPS package... yea my five year old package from Denver. Kid tells me they found it in their hall closet. No doubt UPS delivered it to a neighbor and they forgot.

You said that you are waiting for USPS to call you back.

I shared in another post that I believe that a postal clerk is stealing or destroying packages that ebayers send.

The post office finally did call me back, but it was a waste of time...and pretty much a joke. I do think that the gal did run a search for my 5 packages, but since they had been stolen by the clerk, they were nowhere to be found.

In essence, even though they called, everyone in that post office circled their wagons, and set up a perimeter of defense. Their biggest claim was "Maybe you didn't label it correctly." Really???? I print labels from ebay every day, and haven't lost anything other than those 5 packages, all in one day, from the same clerk.

if you suspect theft, notify the Postal Inspectors!!!!!!!

@Tom, wow, 5 years! At least they return it.

@Covis, I will not hold my breath on the reply for the USPS, probably they will wash their hands saying that it shows was delivered...

@Danno, I'm looking into the Postal Inspector, and the link will send me to the USPS, when I select Mail Theft, it show up another scroll down window, and on the list there is nothing that can apply to my item.

Update, I open a Stolen mail case, on the 9/16, but I did not received a reply yet. The seller (modelempireusa.com) was so kind to contact me asking is I had received my PE parts, and said that they will send me another one for free!!! Really appreciate this, also because they didn't had any fault on this.

I went through a similar issue with some custom bumper stickers I had ordered. I went two post offices to try to find out what happened, and every time I was told that it had been delivered. I even asked if we could talk to the letter carrier, and they told me that wouldn't be possible. I called the company I ordered the stickers from (stickerjunkie.com, good company, by the way) and they just made up a new set for me. I got the second set in a couple of days. The first set showed up two months later with no extra postmarks, or labeling of any kind.

I ordered parts from over seas, Japan I think. Tracking showed it went to my in laws house some how. She corrected it with the post office and forwarded it to me. The tracking showed it was delivered and forwarded to the correct address

Never showed up. Luckily the seller resent the full order at no cost, including the shipping
