topher5150
I have a Lincoln with gold raised lettering on the tail light, which is now faded and mostly gone. Would something like gold bare metal foil hold up very well on a real car application?
Blown03SVT
Not for very long I would imagine. Between the U.V. exposure and elements, the adheasive would let go and I would assume the gold toning which I am pretty sure is anodizing would fade. The lettering was probably initially a tampo printing or a vaccum metallic plating process. If the car is a garage queen that never gets driven or put through a car wash it would probably work. JunkPile
Give it a try.
Draggon
Perhaps using 3M Super 77 adhesive on the foil, then coating it with Future would help. I think even better would be to then spray the taillight and lettering with clear urethane.
MAGNUM4342
For a quick, temporary fix, I would get some microscale foil adhesive. Clean the area VERY thoroughly. Then apply the adhesive, per bottle instructions to the gold foil. Attach, burnish and trim the foil as you normally would, then coat the lense with Pledge with futureshine. That MIGHT hold for a few months or even a year or two. Good luck, and if you try it, please post some pics.
