Hey, it's almost that season; Models!

Yeah, I know many of you build year-round, but I build during the Fall into Spring, and I'm getting ready to get the bench organized again. Initial plans are to put a few finishing touches on the Woody I did, start on the `62 Lancer I got at NNL East, and I'm also going to do a ......DIE CAST!

Care to guess what I'm building?

I kinda do what squirrel's do to get ready for winter, gather nuts. I prep, paint and get kits ready to be assembled during the winter. Then I put them together when it's cold. It's mostly out of necessity, I paint outside only when it's warm out. Someday I'll get a paint booth and I won't have to do this anymore.

Funny,I was just thinking about this very topic. I work 9am-9pm five days a week and have to paint outside in the unpredictable Vermont weather. So when the moon, sun, and stars all line up properly, I try to get as much priming and painting done as I can. Then I can spend the winter doing detail work and assembly. I have 5 or 6 bodies finished and about 8-10 kits in primer still on the trees so at least I can do some clean-up and prep work when the mood strikes. This weekend looks like it could be sunny and 68-75 degrees,so I may have another shot at getting "stocked up". It's tough to do it like that but it's hard to start on something in November knowing that you can't paint til' spring. When I tell people I need a garage, they say "You mean a house WITH a garage?". No,just a garage with a couch and a TV..

I paint up bodies also to keep a supply for hot summer months and cold weather. Fall and winter are real fun months to build with football and football shows on. l try to build year round but love fall and winter..

Thanks for the compliments! The color is the factory L1 Surf Turquoise metallic. It always photographs a little more on the blue side, but actually there's a tint of green in the blue. I'm not a fan of greens, but the color is stunning in sunlight. One-year only color, second rarest color next to bronze in `68. I definitely don't see the same color at shows!

Like others, I tend to build more over the winter months, although not like I did when I lived in Chicago. The Midwest winters offered a longer building period but now that I live in North Carolina I am usually mowing grass by late February/early March so free time is less frequent.

The humidity has dropped so there will be a few more painted bodies but in reality, I still have last year's batch to get to before any more for this years!

Hey John when are you gonna bring your car down to Carlisle?

I haven't been building anything models for a while been elbow deep in a new engine build for my Duster, but i did pick up the re-issue Petty dirt track Dart at Fall Carlisle yesterday :)

Let's see.... 270 miles divided by 13 MPG is roughly 26 gallons @ $4.65 a gallon plus return trip..... and tolls approx. another $35. Wow, it get's ex$pensive fast!

I had the `Cuda at Englishtown for the Mopar Atlantic Nationals. Carlisle is a bit far these days. I like A/C and stereo on long trips. I'm also contemplating a 418" stroker/6 spd. swap next. Just gotta get the funding.

Thanks goodness for models. I can build whatever I want on the cheap!
