lanesteele240
I got back to work on the shelby after a long work period. I was having trouble figuring out how i would be able to get the door jams molded in and keep the interior painted. I could not figure it out so i cut the top off the car and now we have a convertible. This is the rear section of the jam and here is the rocker jam that needed to be filled with evergreen Here is the first layer of many with tamyia grey putty. Here is the convertible hack job
lanesteele240
Ok. Im back on this one I changed the color i was gone use to this dupa color blue that another member said looked like the blue that red bull racing uses on the RB6. It does. I will use it on my Rb6 build later. It took a long time to get the door jams even close to where they would look good painted Edited May 20, 2013 by lanesteele240

lanesteele240
Now the wheels. My idea of making the five spokes did not pan out. The plastic from the ridemakes wheels was to hard to sand out the imperfections left when i cut out the other material that i did not want. So im using the other set i bought. The dumb thing is, the ones im gone use are close to the kit wheels. Derrrrrrrrrrr. You can see the kit wheel beside the RMakers with kit tires And then the RMakers with RMakers tires. I glued the 5 spoke wheel to the one im using. I slid it in the tire and cut off the excess. This could be used to do a deep dish rim if you are onto that stuff Here are a set of drilled and slotted rotors i got off ebay. I cut the calipers off the risen ones and then added the calipers off the kit break assembly. The rear calipers just got cut off and the whole resin peice will just get glued on. I used the kit parts so adding the resin parts wont be so hard Edited May 21, 2013 by lanesteele240
Kennyboy
Those door jambs are beautiful Gary! Looks great in paint too.
lanesteele240
Here are the rotors mounted. Front Rear I think i the angle is right. I tried to match the kit directions as to where the calipers go. Since i sanded the kit ones off, i had to just guess where to put them One more pick gluing the wind sheild in. lanesteele240
I painted thespokes the color of the body with a brush. Then i flipped the wheel over and super glued a hub that came in the kit to the wheel. I will cut the end off of the metal pin and mount that to the car
Kennyboy
Looking good Gary! Big props to you for being the first convertible with opening doors! It would be awesome if someone could photoshop this and my Super Snake together in a photo. Would love to see that!! lanesteele240
Thanks kenny. The idea of both of the snakes side by side would be sweet. I just bought another 1/12 shelly for my next build. Cant wait to finish this so i can start it
ewaskew
Very nice work Gary. I want to cut the door's on one I'm making plans on. And seeing your's detailed up will be a big help.
lanesteele240
I used some aluminum rod 1/8 dia. and drilled out the rear axel to recieve it. The front would not allow for this so those wheels are not secured 100%. They may fall off at some time. Front wheel and rotors. The resin rotors add a ton of detail but were cheap off ebay. Rear. Im getting close. This thing has drug out way to long. A few more kit items to stick on, some seatbelts to scratch and the convetable top to go

Where can I find these wheels? I'm on the hunt for a set for my Mustang? And the brakes? Edited May 25, 2013 by JamesW
lanesteele240
The wheels are from a store kinda like build a bear but for boys. It is called ridemakerz. They have stores in select areas. Mostly tourist areas. I heard some one say that you can get ridemakerz stuff from toys are us. They also have a web site. The rotors came off ebay. Just search for 1/12 resin drilled and slotted breakes and they should pop up. They were like 4.99 plus 2.50 shipping. I bought a few sets to minimize the shiping. I could not figure out how i was going to paint the exterior and then paint/ slash do the interior since i could no longer remove the body shell after molding in the door jams. But the convertable lets you see the inside better. Thanks to everybody for the coments. They really helped pushed me when ii started to get burned out on it.
