Hey!

near west suburbs of Chicago is where I'm at. Along with Lou Malnati's Pizza, one of my favs is Gino's East in the city!!!

And if Your ever in this area you've got to go to Palmer Place in La Grange Ill, great burgers,sandwiches,O-rings, and potato salad, and plenty of beers on tap,and in bottles, the best!!!!

Don't forget Route 66 Raceway, my son and I go for the NMCA/NMRA Superbowl of Street Legal Drag Racing, always a Great time.

I used to do Gino's East back in the late 60's, what a great place.

Don't hang up your snow shovel just yet Harry. I think as far as snow goes, it'll be iffy for another three or for weeks. Come on spring!

Spring?

It was 12 degrees two nights ago.

Hey Al Gore... where's that global warming you keep selling?

Went to a car show in Joliet yesterday at the Hooters in the Joliet Mall and the show was packed. All the parking spaces were filled and the show spilled out into the Sears lot as well. Lots of beautiful cars, Hooter girlz, rock 'n roll music, good food, and just plain fun. I did take some pics with my "film" camera that I sometimes use for reference or motivation. I also did two cruise nights last week, I'm missing one tonight, and I'll make one on Saturday in Fox Lake. I just LOVE the summer months! Yes, I'm still buildin' some also.

I lived in Oak Lawn in the 60's. Went to Oak Lawn Community High on 95 th. I believe it was. Lived off of 87 th. and Natoma. Used to work at the Texaco gas station at the corner of 87 th. and Oak Park. Spent many a night the Starlite drive in movie theater and than afterwards either "Pup and Pop" across on Harlem or down to 79 th. to the White Castle once it was built. Good times.

The Meltdown Drags were held this weekend at Byron Dragway and they were AWESOME to say the least. The cars on the drag strip were '66 and earlier and the cars in the show were '72 and earlier. This was a great nostalgia event and next year I plan on going on Sat. instead of Sun. as it is the better of the two days. I went today (Sunday) and was NOT disappointed at all. I shot up two rolls of film quickly and wished that I would have brought my new digital camera with me instead. Now I'm "jacked up" and want to start on even more model kits. LOL! You could say that I'm motivated.

The Belvedere Mopar show was also going on this weekend not far from Byron.

Born in Evanston, raised in Glenview and Northbrook, then three decades in Southern California, now back in Northbrook. My main hobby store was Klipper's (which I found out recently was originally a Crosley dealership, so they went from selling little tiny cars to selling little tiny cars). I also went to Hobbymodels in Evanston (back around '73 they dug up a complete 1953 AMT 3-car kit which I bought for $15.00) and Bargain Town in Niles. Just east of there was the Topps discount department store - nothing special except back in 1966, in the toy department, there was a big tray table full of unboxed promotional models from which I picked out a white '65 Falcon convertible; probably paid a buck for it, if that... then when I was older I started going to the Old Town Escorts model swap meets after seeing the Chicago Tribune magazine article that featured Ron Merkel's brown '61 Ford wagon on the cover.

I have some old Instamatic shots of the OTE and NeuChamps model displays from the 1970's I'll be posting soon in the main section.

I'm a former long time member of The Old Town Escorts and a friend of mine and ran the model contest at the Hillside Holiday Inn Swap Meets for Tom Lima Jr. I believe the Escorts broke up in '86 if I'm not mistaken and I should look it up as I have a lot of paper work from my "Escort" days.
