To strip the chrome?

Hi, Wondering if theirs a way to detach the chrome pieces without leaving that unchrome finish at the tabs? I'm a newbie..be nice lol

I'm putting them in water, then leaving them on paper towel for 30 or so second than applying them on the car...but they don't stick. They keep falling off.

I don't know how many decals I've destroyed!!! What is the trick. Do I need a special clue first then apply the decal? I've seem people using Microsol and other product but is there other way?
