TV Tommy Ivo L700

Recommended Posts

While I was hunting pics for details for a build I stumbled upon this pic of TV Tommy Ivo's twin axle L700 transporter & having that love for the L700 I knew I had to at least try to build it

GLMFAA1 sent me two FireTruck frames to which when I get the decals done his name will be listed as a crewmember

Here's one of the long FireTruck frames he sent with my L700 mockup cab fitted & front axle relocated

Here's the difference in the wheelbase of the two

I lengthened the inner wheel housings using parts that had been cut off my FireTruck HaulerHome

Never been a fan of this truck but I like the version on your picture very much. It is very interesting project that you started and I look forward to seeing the progress. You can add me to the list of your fans and I wish you good luck with this build.

Good luck with your project Bob I've seen someone on the East coast built one. It was killer I've seen it at NNL East and the CPMCC September showdown I never did find out who the builder was. maybe they will see your post and and some pictures to help you out. Good luck with your project. The Fire truck frame looks like a good (easy) place to start. You can find some more pictures of Ivo's hauler here on my Fotki site. http://public.fotki.com/VincePutt/semi_truck_shows_/dodge-race-car-haulers/page2.html

Bob I like your idea on building TV Tommy's race hauler looks like your off to a good start. Here is a link to Tommy's history of car haulers you will see that this truck started out as a single axel until they were caught over weight at the scales in Lousinana

  • 1 month later...

The member fell through with the deal on the cab but

scale trucker came through with a resin rear suspension so construction will move ahead & I'm sure a L700 cab will find it's way to me sooner or later

I had one come the other week but it will go to a project that's much further along to completion I still haven't found a trailer that has the right siding yet

What about scratch building the front and sides of the main "box" using sheet styrene. Fashion the main shape. Then add horizontal half round Plastruct or Evergreen styrene rod, appropriately spaced. Then measure, mark up and scribe out the openings. Add in clear acetate or sheet then for the "glass"

Gordon, I want to build that one too Greg sent me two frames & suspensions & I decided to do the twin axle first the other frame is still on the table with the mockup cab sitting there saying "lets go ahead & get the frame done & the front axle moved"

I'll get tired for a minute on the Darts & snatch that frame up & fit the cab to it & move the rear axle too

Some additional thoughts after studying this pic. Using the same half round strips to simulate the corregated sides, what if we take a trailer kit from Galaxie Limited as a base. Then make modifications from there? Would be sturdier as a start point, would come with the back gate, easy to get various versions from them direct, ebay or other suppliers

In follow up to my last post. Take a Galaxie kit and approach it like we are channeling a car body (still dod the horizontal strips too). Basically split the box sides horizontally; scratch build in the vertical post; use material chopped out to build in the front of the box?
