MCM Ohana (6/6)

  1. I found these pics in my files of one I sold recently. 1963 motorised. It's not that bad ecxept the roof need a little work to make it the correct shape. I think it would make a good reprisentation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth's ceremonial vehicle if you could vac form a clear roof.
  2. Quick question, is this the same grill as from the Ghost Buster Ecto1 with the emergency lights in the grill or have these been eliminated. Cheers, John.
  3. This is my AMT 52 Chevrolet custom, inspired by Harry Bradley's 'La Jolla' in Street Rodder magazine sometime from the 1970s. A lot of firsts for me, extended rear fenders, moulded grill, tunneled headlamps, AMT Impala wheels , roof I think is Monogram's 55 Chevrolet Street Machine though Im not really sure and visor cut from the the kit rag top , oh and first attempt at a rattle can cellulose pain job(with primer) Built, sometime in the mid 1970s
  4. Fujimi did produce a couple of RRs.a convertible and a Phantom V, though not great reprisentations and usually motorised. I sold the Phantom V on ebay back in November, the image is still their as of 19 Jan.
  5. That Lambo looks real nice, I'm hoping to get the 1960s Mustang but just wondering about the scale. If all glued together is it to big for a slot car conversion?
  6. Bringing up an old post: I totally agree with you. As a youngster I thought like many that anyone could paint like Picasso, but after studying his work later in my life and realising who his subjects were I noted that despite their abstract look, the painting could be reasily recognised as the person they were supposed to be. Gerald Wingrove was a great craftsman, also he wrote that his wife was probably as good as he, and a generous man who would share his skills with others.
  7. Hi Andy, you really went to town on that one, superb. I built the original Revell kit many years back I did make mine a box stock version and yes I was a little let down on the level of detail but understood it was produced just as model cars were really getting under in the 1950s. But I stuck with it and some minor detailing from another kit or two I like to think I produced a reasonable example. One thing I did notice on your model you missed out, they were the vents on the top of the fenders just in front of the windshield, I got around this by using the side vents from a Jo-han Chrysler Turbine kit, the are just the correct size to duplicate these parts. Revell -Monogram's 1959 Cadillac kits can be also a supply for parts also. The original Revell Brougham kit has been rereleased by Atlantis by the way though I really love the original 1950s box art and is probably the best part of that kit. 1st pic mine 2nd Pic is from Google images(Chrysler)
  8. Hi all, I have been away for a while and just getting back to the hobby, I'm looking for some links preferably on this site to building and detailing the 2 kits in my heading. Has anyone posted builds and could you pass on any links please. Thanks, John.
  9. Thanks Gareth. It was quite a few years ago I visited Hannants in Colindale, They had a few AMT cars in but as I wandered through the shop no one was interested in serving me, in fact I had to butt into a personal conversation to get some attention. They did have what I wanted though it was in their aircraft section(Half the shop) but car stuff was at a minimum at one 12 foot shelf. I don't think they were interested in you unless you were an established buyer .
  10. Could I resurrect this old topic as what with BREXIT and other problems obtaining kits from regular suppliers other than eBay in the UK. Thanks, John.
  11. First of all I believe Harry passed away a few years back but he produced an excellent build up I recommended a friend looked at for ideas and methods to build this model. I do not know if this build up has been archived but I cannot find a link to it as it was many years ago now. Can anyone please help me find the build up topic please. Many thanks, John
  12. Sometimes the producers of these shows must think we are stupid. Sorry to diverse away from auto and antique stuff but this is the worst I have seen "Finding Escobar's Millions" So top dog drug dealer Pablo Escobar left behind millions maybe billions of dollars hidden away and still unaccounted for, who do they ask maybe a possible hiding place? His body guard! Pablo's girlfriends brother or dad or cleaner or or his pet donkey even. Illegal drugs being a really serious criminal practice where you can be buried dead or alive just for smiling at the wrong person, would those people interviewed really help locate $$$$$$$ of criminal fortunes? At the end of the first season I don't think they found anything as the reality 'cast' including the donkey would have not told anyone where it was if there was any, would you? Another show about two cowboys looking for old wild west stuff(I can't remember the name of the show) Almost identical to Pickers. So the pickers go to the Truckee lake, I can almost hear Frank and Mike coming across a relic from the Donner Party 'How much, what do you think Mike $2000 bucks?' 'Nah, there's not enough meat on the bone'
  13. The Ayala Mercury was stolen sometime during the 1970s and has never been seen since. It is believed both Sam Barris and the Ayala's started both around the same time, maybe the Ayala car was even finished first, not long later Louis Betancourt took it to the Barris's for a repaint and some minor additions. Though the Ayala's did all the custom work I do prefer Barris's modifications and new colour. I much prefer the Sam Barris 49 and the Ayala car to Sams Hirohata car as to me that one is just a little over the top. I shall look for that book despite all these books being quite rare now over here(UK). Cheers, J.
