Raul_Perez
I just picked up the Tamiya Ferrari FFX, and the PE kit that goes with it, today at the LHS. I was pretty surprised when I did a search for FXX on the forum that it came back with no posts. Any helpful hints or pitfalls to avoid with this kit will be gratefully appreciated!! Thanks,
Zoom Zoom
There was a recent buildup in the magazine by Dave Thibodeau, check that for all you need to know. It's basically a modified Enzo, the only visible problem w/the Enzo and FXX kit is that the engine cover doesn't fit very well, there's something (I believe on the inner wheel wells) that keeps it from closing tight...test fit and grid from behind if you want it to fit properly. The Enzo is painted flat/satin black under the engine cover (not visible carbon fiber), so a bit of grinding followed by some brush-painted flat black acrylic will look just like the real thing. Brendan
I have built the kit and I had no problems with it whatsoever. The only areas that you need to make sure of is not to have the back end misaligned at all. All the pieces fit very tight. Might have to do some sanding if you put on a lot of paint. I built mine in under 5 days from start to finish. I got it the Monday before the NNL West and had it ready to show on Saturday. Gregg took a lot of pictures of my model. The decals are good. They are opaque enough that the red doesn't show through the white. They can be brittle, though, since they are a little thick in the white part of the decal. Here are the pictures that Gregg took of my model. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/NNLWest07/index9.html

Brendan
Thanks, guys!! Brendan, Did you use the Tamiya PE kit with yours? Yes, I did. Everything fit perfectly. I used a little clear acrylic to hold the PE in place.
David Thibodeau
I think it was issue # 124 I believe? If you want to order the back issue. I wrote a complete article including using Scale motorsport Carbon fiber Decals. I highly reccomend you do that step. Here are pics of mine... .The photo etch kit really saves alot of time with the pre made PE mesh... the seatbelts are real nice as well.... Here is the issue Bob was talking about with the rear bonnett. I decided to leave since I added alot of extra detail to the engine compartment and it would spent most of its time displayed that way.... Here is the engine compartment : A few more.... If you have any questions feel free to contact me. DaveT

Yes, I looked through my stack of magazines and found the article. Very nicely written! I'll need to get some of the carbon fiber decals. The FXX was calling me, though I'm not sure what it was calling me. To tell the truth, I wasn't thinking about having to deal with carbon fiber decals when I bought it, or I might not have... No, it won't be ready by the NNL West. I probably won't even have time to start it by then. I've still got the 43 Willys gasser pickup and the 58 Impala to finish first. Avatar, what avatar?
