MCM Ohana

MCM Ohana (6/6)

  1. It has been a few decades since I have had to deal with "soft plugs". A couple of suggestions that may help: They used to offer replacements that had a hard rubber bushing the size of the opening in the block that had a bolt of sorts passing thru the center and screwed into a metal plate on the water jacket side of the plug. After inserting the plug into the block as far as the plug would go you would tighten the bolt and it would expand the rubber plug from the inside of the engine. As for an installation tool, we used to use a socket that would fit inside the outer surface of the metal soft plug and with an extension on the socket extending into a part of the engine compartment that you could use a hammer to ease the plug into the block. A good liquid sealer would help the soft plug into place and act as a sealer as well.
  2. With the interest in pickups I would think Round 2 would be looking at a redo of the C1500 454SS truck and some of the other old AMT issues from the past. A reissue of a '68 Impala SS would be nice as well with the prices being sky high for original AMT versions now. I think any number of the listed kits would sell well.
  3. Beautiful looking paint finish and color. The chrome body trim all looks great. The Camper looks like it could have been a kit part, and the latter and trim look realistic.
  4. Looks great and that bed can be a real challenge to put together correctly. Paint and colors all look OEM including the bed floor.
  5. Great looking color and GM should have offered something like that. The decals and body finish look great. the engine detailing is cleanly done. Like the way the wheels and tires are done.
  6. Even with all of the mentioned problems the final build looks great, and I don't think anyone, other than someone who has also built this model would know of the problems. Beautiful looking paint and body trim. Like the well detailed engine. Found much the same problems and the interior issue seems to require gluing the back side of the cab after installing the interior. Fought the same battle since I wanted the rear cab seem to disappear.

    ‘69 Nova

Beautiful looking paint color and finish. The chrome window moldings you mention were an extra cost trim option on the Nova, I had them on my '72 Nova SS.
  8. This is an unfortunate problem here as well. They are often called Organ Doners.
  9. I suggest finding some plastic picnic spoons and try different paint applications before starting on the model itself. Having used Tamiya Pearl White, I would also suggest a base coat of White Primer and then the Pearl White paint. The pearl White paint does not cover a darker color well and you end up with several coats of paint and the loss of body details because of that.
  10. Great looking Drag setup. The Tech. guys might put this in a different class. Like the way you mixed and blended the two kits together.
  11. I remember a Broncho this same color in town when these first came out. Great looking finishes and the wheels and tires belong on this.
  12. Great looking paint and stripe combination. The interior looks really nice as well.
  13. Beautiful looking colors and great finishes. The added engine details go a long way under the hoods.
  14. The paint finish looks nice and smooth. The subtle color and lack of RR markings give it the sleeper look. Like the paint wheels and dog dishes the white letter Good Years are the only give away.
  15. Great looking paint color and finish. The chrome trim is all neatly done. The interior and engine finish are all very realistic looking. Should win something at the NNL East show.
