  1. As I recall, there were many poorly-fitting parts on it. Those headers are an example, and I agree, they should exit the side.
  2. Modellpularn, I have been forwarded your emails, and will respond soon. I built this model around 1994 or '95, I was approximately 19 years old at the time. During those years, I was attending many model car shows in the Southeastern USA, and I know I took it to several of them. Once I was finished showing it, I donated it to one of the area model clubs, probably in 1996 or '97. As a fund raiser, they auctioned it off at their annual show. If I recall correctly, an acquaintance from Knoxville, Tennessee, won it, and that was the last time I saw it in person. And yes, it appeared in an article written by Pat Covert for the April 1996 issue of SAE. I am quite amazed this model is still around, and that it is currently in Sweden is just astonishing! I have no idea how it made it's way to you, but it must have a very interesting story. Here's a few old photos I found. I used dry transfer lettering on clear decal film for the decals, and the skyline paintjob was simply masked and airbrushed. Other than that, I built it straight out-of-the-box. Please keep us updated, I am very much looking forward to seeing your work on it!
  3. Naturally, I'm not quite as knowledgeable on the C2's, but I'll help as much as I can. Nope, I really didn't notice. I'll pay more attention next time.
  4. Sure, the "early" C3 (1968-'72) emblem looks like this: It appears the one you've modeled is the 1977-'79 version:
  5. Looks like I was AWOL when you updated this thread. Mike, it's looking fantastic! Did you 3D-print the Stingray emblems as well? Even in 1/8 scale, that's some intricate stuff. And I especially love those bumpers and grilles, they look perfect! But I have to ask . . . did you intentionally use the late C3 crossflag nose emblem instead of the early one? It looks great regardless.
  6. That's just beautiful, Mike! Keep it up!
  7. I'm planning on it! Not gonna have my street rod finished, but I've already got a Vette ready.
  8. On a factory stock or race car, I agree completely. But on a custom, street rod, etc., I wouldn't be too quick to judge. In 1:1, that look is easily achieved with an aftermarket distributor cap, such as an Accel 8141R. Been thinking about picking one up myself.
  9. Yep, all '69 through '76 had the Stingray badges. And yes, that pic is a '68. The doors give it away - only the '68 had indentions at the lock cylinders.
  10. I don't know why those would be a style flaw, they would probably look great! And FYI, the sport mirrors from the Monogram kit didn't become an option until 1977, I believe. So if you're trying to keep it 'period correct', I wouldn't use those.
  11. Saw this one and immediately thought of your model.
  12. I think the Hooker style is the best option to compliment the flares. And personally, I think they look better without the heat shields. If that's the direction you go, I wouldn't hesitate to use the LeMans type cap. Wow, I'll certainly be tuned in for that one!
  13. I can't help it that I got it right the first time!
  14. Outstanding work, Mike! So you've converted the Monogram '78-'79 into a '69? How did you make the rear sections and L-88 hood? And are you planning on side exhaust? Nice car!
  15. Just giving you a hard time. But ... Lots of wheels look great on them. If you do a Google search for "Best custom wheels on a C3?", you'll find a fairly lengthy thread on corvetteforum.com - lots of nice ones in there. And you'll notice the Torque Thrust style are very popular on them. And thanks for the kind words. But I'm thinking having to "deal with Porsches" isn't all that bad.
