For instance, I'll always dab lug nuts with color, but if bolts were painted along with an assembly, I'll leave them the same color as that assembly. Most of the stuff I build would be show cars, or over restored classics in 1:1, so I dab them with a little aluminum, or steel paint on a toothpick, maybe even sometimes gold to represent zinc plated fasteners. Your post reminded me of an old built up I had once... the builder had carefully and perfectly painted all the ejector pin marks on the chassis silver!
