GM's Secret Stash

Recommended Posts

Arguably, is the operative word. There would be a dispute or a zillion, regarding this collection being "THEE" greatest collection in the World... It's only GM cars.... Therefore it CANNOT be the BEST car collection in the World. Simple.

Was there in 2005, thanks to a GM buddy in Swartz Creek MI.

Since then, we both left GM, all that remains, is a bunch of photo's and fading memories.

BTW it was my last grand road trip in the US (was statesside for 5 weeks) and a couple days prior to the secret stash, the Chrysler and Henry Ford Museum, I visited the Corvette plant and museum in Bowling Green and also the B'ham hobby contest.

Always the negative. never looking at what it is, only what it isn't. I feel sorry for people like you. Not.

They could sell off some of that and hire a couple of the BEST engineers in the world and fix the ignition switch woes.

Yeah, but I'm still kinda wondering why it takes a "team" of engineers to design one little switch. I could do it in a week, and still take an early, long weekend.

As far as the collection goes, the High Museum of Art here is currently running a show focused on prototype and concept cars. A couple of the notables from GM's collection are included, and they really are quite beautiful and impressive in the flesh, so to speak.

Hyperbole much? No doubt a significant collection but "arguably the best in the world". There are lots of great collections around the world. That is like saying that there is one painting in the world that is the best! Laughable statement.

I agree, Nissan's secret collection is far better , but of course, that is my opinion B)

Where there's a positive there's a negative...

Where there's an open door there's a closed one.. Where there's an up there's a down...

Where there's a no there's a yes...

Where there's a good there's an evil... Etc etc

As Dirty Harry once said... Opinions are like a**holes, everybody's got one ?

So if you feel sorry for me champ... You should also feel sorry for yourself ??

Why does every thread here have to have people arguing?????????????? Good lord, just enjoy the pictures.

My grandma used to tell us kids, "You'd be whining if you were the first person on the bread line!" Of course the depression era reference was way lost on us 1960s kids! :D

One of my favorites from the grandfather/father era was "You'd complain if you were hung with a new rope." :P

Another one, which I adopted as a father was "Finish your dinner, don't you know there are kids starving in [insert starving nation du jour here] who'd love to have that food?" ^_^

I was stopped in my tracks by a 6-year-old daughter who promptly retorted, "It would be moldy by the time it gets there!" :o:P

First heard the "starving kids" quote in grade school. One of my classmates replied to Sister "then box it up and send it to them." Sister was not amused.

Whenever my cat whines for extra food after she's had plenty (likes to eat for entertainment, just like me), I tell her "consider yourself lucky and stop whining. There are starving people in China who EAT cats"

Yea, it was beyond my understanding as a kid how stuffing an extra half a sandwich into me would benefit those starving kids! Still haven't figured it out.

My question is, since when has this collection become "GM's Secret Stash"? It's never been open to the general public. But at the same time the collection has been seen in many magazines and on TV before. And GM has given private tours to select groups at different times. It's been no secret to me for more than 15 years, at least.

You are lucky she didn't lay "Their misfortune is no excuse for my gluttony" on you!!

We always got the "...I'll give you something to whine about..." from the parents who grew up during the depression, the male half of that couple having begun his flying career at the age of 19 in the Pacific theater during WWII. There wasn't much whining going on around my house.

And, you ate what my mother prepared.

A lot of the kids I grew up with had parents like that, too.

I've visited the collection about four times. It's available for scheduled group tours. The cars on display change periodically with the rest of the collection which is stored in other out of the way warehouses that are definitely NOT open to the public. And,yes, some of the vehicles have been sold off.A big chunk went at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale event a couple of years ago-stuff like some old concept vehicles and some production serial #1 vehicles like the first Saturn and some Oldsmobiles.

There's a lot of nice cats there. My father, grandfather and myself worked on the prototype show cars. There are cars in there that we all had a part in. Never been in the building but that is where all of GMs prototypes end up.
