Ross Gibson...engines...sad news

Recommended Posts

My condolences also, he was a good guy. He had found one of my builds online were I said some really nice things about his engine kit that I used. He contacted me privately, complemented my build and thanked me for what I had posted. We had talked off and on for awhile about projects and he sent me some resin items that he cast but did not sell commercially. I wish I had met him personally as he seamed to really care about this hobby.

My condolences to Mr. Gibson , his family , and his friends .

I bought one of his beautiful 1968-1971 340 / Torqueflite kits (includes both water pump / timing cover pieces : 1968-1969 ; 1970 & later . Talk about attention to details !) , and am going to eventually employ it in one of my pending MoPar A-body builds .

Whoa... I wrote to him many years back in regards to a B1 for a Pro Mod Superbird that I had planned. We kidded around about my intended "sponsor" for that build (Fredericks of Hollywood) and he wondered if Gates or Goodyear would be supplying "belts and hose(s)...". I guess you had to be there. I still have the engine; now, I have the impetus to build and use it. RIP, Ross.

One of Ross' resin 440 with a set of long rams. Amazing detailing…..

Ross' 340-6 Bbl. with the correct previously mentioned 68-specific water pump.

I am sad Ross is gone . He will be missed .

I have a question about the '68 Barracuda 360 V/8 with the specific '68 Water Pump . Please correct me if I am wrong . SB MoPars are a bit of confusion for me .

It is my understanding , 1967 was the inaugural 340 . It had the Distributor located in the back as the 318 . It was a new Engine series not from the BB Engine 318 , but a enlargement of the 273 V/8 . Which was derived from the 318 Light weight of 1965 , while not Poly Head design . It was a new light weight , dimensionally smaller than the 318 BB . The 6 bbl 340 was introduced in the '79 MY . The 360 was an Engine developed for Smog in the '70's . IIRC , the '73 MY it was introduced . Possibly 1972 . The location of the distributor was the front .

Would someone correct my confusion as something just does not add up . Thanx .
