Jantrix Posted January 17, 2015 Share Posted January 17, 2015 Some work on the Pacer. As you can see, there's some stuff in need of fixing. A huge gap between chassis and interior cup. Here's a strange one. It's obviously meant to be driven with the left foot. Huge tranny hump. Dunno if I'm gonna fix this one or not. Removed the had tank and spare tire well. If anyone is curious what these two gentlemen are referring to, at the end of the Cannonball in 2011, we found out that the management on the Scale Auto forums, had removed the poll function. SA was where the Cannonball started. With no poll function there was no way to have "the race". So I decided a winner on my own and wrote a little humorous story to go with it. I posted it on the SA forums, in place of the poll. It was received rather well, and no one seemed upset. It was of course the proverbial "straw on the camels back" for me at SA forums.The Cannonball has been here ever since. We are on our eighth consecutive year and this CBP is still as popular as ever. We have the best bunch of builders, supportive and fun. We've had no drama, no hurt feelings, no rudeness. Yet. If anyone is curious about the story, shoot me a PM and I'll send you a link to it. Researching on Goog I found that 2/3rds of the rear light valance opens with the lid. I couldn't cut down thru the bumperettes cleanly, so I threw all the bumpers in Easy-Off to de chrome. Filed down the offending bumperettes (I didn't see many '62's that had them anyway), and cut off the middle section. Left side done Wrapped the trunk opening with some styrene, made an attempt at stamped re-enforcements meh and using 1/8" alu. pipe and a paperclip, made up the hinge Came out ok for a first timer IMHO Learn something new everyday (next time ...don't glue the body tube on until I have the wire bent) Phhttt DOH Anywho Cheers Edited January 17, 2015 by Belugawrx Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

That was my first year in a cbp, I'm so glad I joined in, it's been a blast every year I've been apart. As for my build this year I think I finally found my entry. I wanted to do an older 4 door or wagon, something US and at first I was seriously considering doing a rusty crusty '66 Nova wagon with LS9 power. But looking at the current roster there's not a lot from Mopar, which is understandable. So I Googled up Mopar wagon and think I found my entry. A '64 Dodge 330/ Polara Station Wagon, I could hear it say "I'm the one" when I saw it and as luck would have it Lindberg makes a '64 330 Color Me Gone drag car which I think I can convert over. So I'm currently on the hunt for a kit, my plans are to make it a wagon and upgrade it with either Viper or a newer Challenger power plant and suspension with the outside being rusty crusty. Good work, cannonballers Some progress, i have to show on my bug. one thing to remember, i will go a "classic" tuneup line with it, the goal will be a kind of restocallook. so i lowered the axles and shortened the frontaxle: the engine is just in place after some work to open the enginebay on the bug: and some bodywork like removing moldinglines, trunsignals and othe sanding The color is the hardest thing, i thought about weathering...but it will be shiny yellow with white. I'm going to use the stock parallel leafs in the back, with a Ford 9", traction bars & panhard bar. Modified parts box gas tank. Lots more frame work still to come. However I know it will be slightly weathered on the outside, something modern in the inside. Probably a LS based motor. Only real giveaway on the outside will probably be the wheels/tires and brakes. You guys know I'd never leave mediocre parts .......................umm...... mediocre. Frankly it's easier to fix up these parts, than to replace the whole shooting match. More soon. Foxer Posted January 19, 2015 Share Posted January 19, 2015 (edited) Ricardo has removed the body from frame and sprayed it with red primer. Odds are it's going to stay like this for the Run. This guy has NO taste! The local Ferrari afficondos are screaming "SACRILEGO!". Ricardo just laughs and throws the makeshift fuel tank into the trunk for a test fit. The body was primed to check areas needing more bodywork .. or distressing. Been studying alluminum corrosion. There was a leaking wine vat above it during all these years in storage. Most of the other parts have been cleaned up too. I started fabricating a fuel tank for extra capacity to put in the trunk, but. and knowing better, started it while the body was wet and inaccessible for fitting. My imagination went wild and the result wouldn't fit with the body .. no way-no how. So I spent another half day cutting it down and now it fits. I found a set of American style mags and tires for the rear to replace the missing Ferrari wheel .. pics next time maybe. I didn't want to use the intake from the Compuware 'Vette engine so I cut off the plenum covers and fabricated my own. Here is one completed and the parts for the second. After fabbing the plenum I wondered if the engine sat up too high so I test fitted the engine. It fits!! So much room up front I'm thinking twin turbo now! Got 'em, might as well use 'em.
