Draggon
Thats pretty cool. 125hp!
Wagoneer81
125hp from a 1 LITER motor... To put this into perspective, for all of us Imperial Measurement kind of guys, that's 61 cubic inches... Look at the 1 liter drink bottle... That is the SAME DISPLACEMENT!!! Frankly, I'm impressed! cobraman
Sounds like a cool little engine.
The70judgeman
Check it out on Velocity's show Fifth Gear. Whatever the cars were, Fiesta's(?), went head to head, and the 3-banger actually came out on top! Not by much, but a win is a win.
58 Impala
It's amazing the power you can get out of a small engine, look at F1 they have 2.5 liter V8's 800hp no turbo. Of course they do twist them up to around 18-20,000 rpm.
JM485
That would be the best go-cart motor ever!
Ben
Sir, do you have anything to declare?..................A what?????
Austin T
That would be the best go-cart motor ever! Exactly my thoughts,or with enough work the fastest pit bike ever.
charlie8575
A 52-pound block? Dressed, if that engine exceeds about 150-160 pounds, I'd be surprised. 125 horses (I wonder if they're miniature horses? ) out of that motor is pretty impressive. I wonder what mileage will be like? Fabrux
I seem to recall Ford building a car with this 3 cylinder engine, stuck Ecoboost on it and ran the Nurburgring faster than ANYTHING ELSE.
Don Sikora II
At an event I attended for work last summer I was able to spend a few minutes behind the wheel of a Euro-spec Focus with the 1.0-liter EcoBoost. It wasn't for very long, but it was pretty promising. The blog post I wrote about the experience is at the link. http://cgdailydrive.com/a-quick-spin-in-a-euro-spec-ford-focus-with-a-1-0-liter-3-cylinder-ecoboost/
Dave Van
While it's only 70hp or so the 3 cyl engine in my Smart 452 is no slouch. I keep pace on the Interstate, out run them most the time and driven in manual mode runs great. A all new design with eco and turbo should be hot. Dad's Flex with the twin turbo 6 is UNREAL fast.....it's the biggest fastest thing I've driven.
Lownslow
isnt the geo motor close in size too, for sure doesnt have 125 lol that might give some of the microcompacts some oomph 160HP Fiesta ST lol
Dave Van
Geo Metro has a 3 cyl.....but I think they were just talking current production. It too is a 1000 cc motor.
Ace-Garageguy
............................................ I wonder what mileage will be like? Charlie Larkin That will depend on a lot of inter-related factors, like vehicle weight, rolling resistance and aerodynamic drag, transmission type and number of gears available, etc. The power-to-displacement ratio is pretty impressive for a production car engine, but production bike engines have been there for a while. The Hyabusa 1299cc engine was rated at approximately 133 horsepower per liter. More interesting, to me, is that in 1955, 1 horsepower per cubic inch was pretty impressive. That's only about 61 horsepower per liter. Edited November 20, 2012 by Ace-Garageguy
Danno
Would that fit in a Big Deuce frame? Just thinking ...
Harry P.
Would that fit in a Big Deuce frame? Just thinking ... Yeah, if you used big spacer blocks! Seriously though... kind of impressive the amount of power they can squeeze out of a tiny engine these days. Not that long ago big honkin' 8 cylinder engines that made 125 HP were considered to be pretty powerful.
JM485
While 125 horses is impressive, think of the new 450cc dirtbike motors that push over 50 horsepower stock from a single cylinder engine! Plus that is with no turbo or anything, only fuel injection! Imagine what the factory race bikes can make. . .

JM485
That is a great point Harry, didn't think of that. However, to be fair, the EPA has been trying to kill our sport for years, they just haven't succeded nor will they!
gerdog
Are motorcycle engines subject to the same EPA regs that car engines are subject to? I don't think so if mythbusters show info is accurate. They tested motorcycle engines and they were far dirtier than car engines.
