george 53 Posted September 19, 2010 Share Posted September 19, 2010 Mike, I have alot al freinds who do resin casting. It, in and of itself, are NOT that black magic a region that YOU couldn't do it. The problem is comeing up with an acceptable MASTER! ALL the guys I know can cast like GANGBUSTERS, the PROBLEM is, GETTING castable MASTERS! Just because it looks good to ONE person, doesn't mean it's ACCEPTABLE! I have done some that I've lent out as masters, and THEY still needed work. Nothing major, mind you, it LOOKED like it was supposed to, but it WAS missing the little Emblems and other little things that made it a 'Ready to cast master" The guys who DO cast these masters ALREADY have their hands FULL just tryng to CAST. Makeing the masters to CAST FROM, is even MORE time consumeing. If you could offer up a MASTER of those particular cars you mentioned, I'm SURE one of the resin casters here on MCM forum, would be willing to do it. Hope this helps. Of course, you would have to do a LOT of reshaping and scratchbuilding, but the basics are at least there as far as the body shape is concerned. I think you'll find that getting the master done will be your biggest challenge. Even when starting from another GM 'C' body, there are enough differences to require a LOT of scatchbuilding. A lot of small parts would also have to be mastered, such as the instrument panel, seats and trim, wheel covers, grilles, tail lamps and bumpers. Obviously resin casters want to specialize in something that will be 'sellable'. Make a convincing case that a Grandville kit is sellable, and you'll get one. I think a resin kit would sell everyone likes and wants movie car replicas the grandville and the ventura both from the 7ups. I strongly belive they would sell!
