Cool start! With the work you have done so far, be sure to raise the windshield top since it's way too low in this kit. Also look at the drip rails over the doors, mine were almost non-existent and I added Evergreen round there. The logos on the cowl are very faint, and the Model King version of the kit has them on the decal sheet. I'd sand them off and use the decal. The decal sheet also has the FORD lettering missing from the hood.

hey Carl, thanks, I cut 2.5 cm (Canadian eh!) out on the bed chassis and drive shaft, still have allot of sanding to making it, seamless, losing some of the molding detail though.

Tom, any suggestions on the windshield, any pictures of yours for suggestions

Chris, right now the molding looks good. I didn't know if you cut it or if it was resin. I have never seen one of these in a short wheelbase and it looks awesome. You would think they would make a short bed. I did find a short bed for the long wheelbase Dodge truck on ebay. Just have not built it yet. I really like what you have going on this...

Chris, this is the only one I've built so far. I wasn't allowed to modify the body since you may recognize this as one of the trucks on the Model King release box. It was built from a test shot. If you look at the windshield on my model, then the one in the photo below, you can see how far off the kit actually is. I did replace the drip rails on this one, which is also one of the things you should want to do.

Here's a reference photo of one I want to build. I will use the box from the AMT '53 Ford pickup, which is still valid for this year! If you trace the imaginary line from the top of the door across to the top of the windshield, that's pretty much it. On the kit, it may be carving back to the edge of the top molding. Then you need to rescribe the trim across the top of the windshield or just trace it with a black Sharpie!

This is an album of reference photos I've assembled:

The grill is so much better than this amt one.

Thanks Chris. The grill on mine is the kit part, only painted instead of chromed. There are several trucks on the kit box and my assignment was to build a 'hot' 4x4 with some off road dirt on it. I had to build it in a fashion that a buyer could duplicate with the kit parts. My decision to do the painted grill was to differentiate it from the others on the box, but was also an easy way out since the test shot didn't come with any chrome. I did Alclad the bumpers.

Another interesting detail. All of the accessories on the truck are pinned on rather than glued. It was done that way so that the photographer could decide what to use. So the front grill guard and roll bar are removable. The side mirrors are too, but that was to avoid damage in the mails. When I built the kit, I didn't know what would happen in the end, but I got it back and am happy to have it on my shelf. It now wears the NJ plates "BOX-ART"

Carl, I really want to see that Dodge... any pictures

I Have not took any pictures since I bought it on ebay and its still in the box. I plan on dropping it on a little red express chassis. A project I have not got to yet...

After a whole lot more sanding, almost a final mock up. Question though, the left bed side has two fuel door lids (gas caps), should I sand out the front one? Or leave it?

Depends on if you build it with two tanks. Not sure if the two tank option was available on short beds...looks like for a single tank the back one would be correct. But in googling '78s I see that the '78 had a fuel door instaed of an exposed gas cap..
