Happy New year all B)

Well, I haven't posted anything for a while, but been have'n fun.

Here's two mini projects that I'll be having fun with for the next few weeks or so.

One is a rare Close Couple Coupe, with the wires and whites, it's one of a kind trunk and lengthened roof through the lengthened rear window, and the other with mags, is a phantom Cabriolet.

Both will have a full leather interior.

Stay safe for '09 - dave :D

Both will be built as stock except for the wheels/tires.

Happy New Year, Dave, let’s hope ’09 gives us a better economy and more time to build. I really like the direction those two 34’s are headed…I know you will not just build another standard coupe…there is always a twist or a design feature that takes your builds somewhere else…they are always unique. Can’t wait to see the next installment on these cars.

I love the top on the roadster…very “Carsonesque†(to coin a phrase) And the “humpback†coupe is very different . I am planning a roadster 34 but my idea is to incorporate more of a Prowler look to it with headlights, dash, windshield and top on a low riding fendered car.

That is what I like about modeling so much…you can play “what if†and it only costs a few dollars if you were wrong. I also like the fact that we can have 10 or so builds of the same kit and have that many different takes on the same car. I love playing “Harley Earl†with my builds…I just don’t get pleasure from building stock.

Anyway, nice start to a new year of builds.

Hi Peter

As you probably figured out by now, my interest in cars is pretty diverse - even the classics from the 20's and 30's.

Got quite a few "older starts" nearly done, so It'll be fun to finish those.

Yeah, the "Dozen or so builds" at a time really works for me too, as I have different "Moods" I get into, so a large choice keeps my interest and passions alive and flowing.

Enjoy your day my friend - dave

My oldest boys birthday is Sunday the 4th, so we'll be going out for a nice steak dinner, and I got him a 20.4 Volt cordless drill motor. Hang that baby up when he's usin' it, and it'll give him a "RIDE" - EEHAH :D

Well, here's some updated pics of the Cabriolet, with some of the details drawn on the roof.

There'll be a lot of detail added to the "Vert" top. A molding will go all the way around the perimiter that'll be painted a darker shade, with metal snaps added.

The rear window get's glass with a chrome molding pirated from a diecast, and there will be "Opera Bars" over each large rear side area.

I'll mold in dips and high spot's in the roof where the bows would be and there'll be some "Wrinkles"

added in the "Cloth" to add realism.

Finally, there'll be two full length features molded in the roof and down the back like you may be able to see in the pic of the convertible sedan pictured here. Nearly all "Vert" tops have this feature as a way to construct the top. Scratch built several of these.

That's it for now - dave :D

You can't see it in the pics, but on real Cabriolet there is a piece of metal that forms a roof frame up the back and over the top of the door for the top to connect to.

That's on this model and the top has been molded to fit over it , and that also acts as a locator to lock the top in position on the body.

  • 3 weeks later...

Hey all :)

Thought I'd better bring these two up to date here.

Been playin' "roundy round", goin' from one car model to the next, gettin' stuff done, all at different stages until they all get pretty close to done, then I'll paint um. Here's the latest on the Cabriolet and the Close Couple Coupe'.

I gotta split the hoods and add hinges on both, so we can all see the "Flatties" ;)

Hope you enjoy the pic - Dave

hi dave !!!

whow you built like a robot - worker;-)

where nice and i am sure that´s also come to great models from you.

nice to see your buildings - very inspirated !!!

greets jürgen

Hi 'juergen'

That's funny about being a "Robot - Worker".

I have learned over the years that when you perfect each step of something you do, whether it's for work or fun, you can be pretty prolific, because you've become so familiar and so adept at using your tools, supplies and perfected talents, and the things you do routinely like painting or body work.

I average between 15 and 25 finished builds per year - many contest winners (Brag, Brag ;) ).

I never sacrifice quality for time, and I never hurry - no point to it for me.

The number of builds is just a result of my passion, love for the hobby, the way God blesses me - AND BEING RETIRED

Got lot's of cool stuff planned for this year and 2010, as I'm usually about two years ahead in my building and planning, or am I behind ;):lol: .

Thanks for the fun comment's - dave :D

Really looking forward to seeing that coupe come together Dave. :P Love the styling on it, and I'm trying to imagine it painted with them whites & wires under it. Got colors figured out yet?

Hey john :)

No colors settled on yet , but probably two toned. Body and fender's seperate color's. Maybe a kind of "Classy" go to the golf coarse car, with a fancy spare. I love spares and "Connie Kit's. Their so elegant to me.

Anyway John, thanks for askin' and I'll talk at ya later - dave

The "Close Couple Coupe" is a pretty rare ford production car. 306 were produced, according to ford history. Most of these cars went to Brazil in South America.

I really like these "Whites and Wires" and I wanted to be able to see the "Whole Wheel" as opposed to "Chopping" it :D to get the car a little lower in the front.

I decided to carefully raise a portion of the front fender's, and then use a donor set of fender's to fill everything in and reshape it all back to "Stock", sort of :o .

I don't think most people would even notice.

You can see the difference in the one pic and I'll do the same in a few minutes to the other side. It doesn't take that long. Probably an hour, including filler.

Well, here's the front fender's raised and pieced together using donor fender's, and ready for some serious body filler  .

Man I love this part.

Grinding, shaping and sculpting - I was born for this  .

By the time it's done, no one will even suspect - VEWY, VEWY SEEKWATIVE :angry:

Hey all :)

Took a break from the "Retro-Vette" and let the primer dry, so I got a little time to play with these two.

Front fenders done and on the coupe and got a little bit of a "Rake" now, with full wheel/ tires.

Goal is for it to be a "Little Classy" for goin' to the "Greens" and playin a round of "18".

There'll be a warmed over "Civilized Flatty" under the "Bonnet" , and a "Real Leather" interior.

The Cabriolet will have a leather interior too. Scratch-built top is nearly done.

Both cars will have "Spare's", but they'll be different. Engine in this one too, but not sure what it'll be.

These will both have plenty of detail, and be pretty "stock" looking, especially the coupe.

Here's a coupla pic's .
