rottin1
I know I have a Curtainside project going on here as well but it's been on hold ever since I picked this Revell Auto Carrier up on eBay. I paid around $52.00 to my door. It was never painted, only the decals were applied, thus making it somewhat easy of a restoration as far as paint goes. The trailer is pretty much mint with only minor work to be done. It needs a good bath , then primed and paint over. Everything was with the trailer except for one back loading ramp. All of the parts as far as mirrors and light ,etc. where there as well for the tractor. The tractors front axle was snapped of as well as one of the rear axles. I've already started restoration on her and thought I would share the album with you guys. Enjoy, it's been pretty fun restorating this. http://s159.photobucket.com/albums/t121/ro...%20Restoration/

rottin1
Thank you very much for the good words! This is my first attempt ever at a big truck resto project. It's just as much fun to restore as to start from a brand new kit. The trailer is going to be painted the same Yellow. Thanks for looking

rottin1
455: Start a forum on here! Let's see some pics!! I am really enjoying this build, because it's my first attempt at tearing down a model and redoing it. A little tougher than building it right out of the box. I'm glad I did attempt this and have a few more at home here to do the same thing too. It seems as though with the prices of new kits these days, it's not too bad of an idea to try this. Like I said, this project came off eBay, to my door for $52.00. I couldn't score this kit for no less than $150.00 I believe. I bought an old AMT freightliner cabover in the same condition and am going to attemp a resto job on that as well. I haven't seen that kit ( the cabover) on eBay for any less than $100.00! I'd love to see your work 455. Thanks!
SpreadAxle
Nice looking truck. Like you I have discovered that resorations can be a lot of fun. I like the color choice here. Very nice.

I could start a tread on the truck though since I've only glued the basic frame. I'll make you feel good about the price you paid. I purchased my Black Magic Pete and Revell Car Carrier between 1984 and 1986. I paid $110 for them back them. That's what happens when you're young and stupid. I'm glad I've waited 23 years to build my kit!
rottin1
Ok' here's a few updated pics of the tractor. I've gotten the motor all done along with the duct work for the breathers. I went with Black air cleaners with stainless straps. Square turn signals. Bumper is curtiousy of Mo aluminum. I'm going to redo the mirror cross brackets. I have to make a longer set of them. The stock ones didn't meet up with the top brackets. There lined up properly just didn't meet. I'm putting the interior in the bunk tonight and then I should have the bunk all ready to mount. I'm working on the rear light bar as well tonight. I'm going with a Black rear light bar as well. The trailer that's going with this Pete is getting it's primer coat tonight. Trailers going to be same Yellow as the tractor is. http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t121/ro...on/MVC-026S.jpg http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t121/ro...on/MVC-025S.jpg http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t121/ro...on/MVC-024S.jpg The last pic is a piture of all the trucks that have com off my workbench in the last year and half. I don't really build too fast! http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t121/ro...on/MVC-023S.jpg Edited August 26, 2007 by rottin1

rottin1
I finally have the bunk mounted on. The bunk interior is all finished as well. I stripped the chrome off the headache rack because it was in pretty rough shape. I painted that Duplicolor Chrome. I modified the rear light bar a little bit. I added a deck plate from a AMT model. I still have to add a few little things like the hood ornament, bug deflector, air lines, some more Pete emblems and fix the cross bracket on the mirrors and add spot mirrors, add the alluminum cab extensions. She'll be all done tonight. I've gone ahead and shot the first coat of Yellow on the trailer. I'm going to shoot 2 more coats then clear coat. http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t121/ro...on/MVC-029S.jpg http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t121/ro...on/MVC-031S.jpg http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t121/ro...on/MVC-004S.jpg

rottin1
Ok folks, First I aplogize for the crappy pics. New camera for Christmas the wife tells me! I managed to finish the tractor completely. I've been focusing now on finishing my trailer. It's painted and cleared. I've added the red and silver reflecting DOT stripe underneath it. I decided to put decals on this one. Most all my others have no trucking names on them. Lack of decent decals I like. Still trying to figure out how to make my own. I used the decals out of the Alaskan Hauler kit I have. The are the same color as my truck. Black with Yellow letters. I tried enlarging the decal from the tractor, and was successfull in enlarging it, but the color has faded. So I'll try again with the decals for the trailer. I've painted all the marker lights, added Alaska license plates on both truck and trailer. I also painted the little handles for the hydraulics. I'm going to attemp and run individual hydraulic lines to the cylinders. http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t121/ro...on/MVC-006S.jpg http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t121/ro...on/MVC-008S.jpg http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t121/ro...on/MVC-009S.jpg http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t121/ro...on/MVC-010S.jpg
