JollySipper Posted April 27, 2015 Share Posted April 27, 2015 I have been using Rustoleum aluminum paint for exhaust and other bare metal parts. Problem is I can only use about 1/3 of a can before it clogs the valve on the inside. Anyone have a suggestion as to a better spray aluminum paint? How does the Tamiya aluminum lacquer look? Pete J. Posted April 27, 2015 Share Posted April 27, 2015 Frankly, metallic paints are all better when sprayed either through a can or airbrush. If you are throwing away half empty cans of paint you may be at a point that an airbrush is financially a better deal. That also opens up the entire line of Alclads to you. They have a very broad range of colors and finishes to mimic metals. If you do get an airbrush for metalizers, get one with as large a tip as you can find. The metal partials need a large tip to get through. As to the clogging issue, if you are not doing this, it may help. When you are done painting, invert the can and spray until the propellant comes out with little or no paint. Then take a Qtip and a little lacquer thinner and wipe off any paint left on the nozzle. StevenGuthmiller Posted April 27, 2015 Share Posted April 27, 2015 I use a lot of Testors Metallizer paints for engine & chassis parts. It's very easy to work with & looks great. Just be warned, it's rather fragile & doesn't hold up well to a lot of handling or masking tape, & while you might be tempted to remedy this problem with a sealer or over coat, it will inevitably "kill" the metal look of the paint. Foxer Posted April 28, 2015 Share Posted April 28, 2015 I'm a Testors Metalizer devote for about all my plastic metal parts. I use it as it comes from the can, polished and clear coated depending on the look I'm going for. Their Aluminum Metal Plate is used more than any as I love the look of it. And it goes on so well over anything .. smooth as silk. I'm an "orange peel expert" with gloss paint and have never had to worry about it with Metalizer.
