MsDano85gt Posted February 12, 2014 Share Posted February 12, 2014 Hello all, I love mpc kits the 80's seemed to have been a good time for the manufacturers at mpc, There were all sorts of cars and trucks being pumped out, dodge trucks of all years throughout the 70's mini mopars omni's daytona chargers, very cool stuff indeed all foxbody mustangs lots of very cool stuff I have for probly 2 years been trying to get a ford EXP there is always a 1/32 scale one for sale usually on the flea bay, when the EXP 1/25 scale ones show up i always get out bid!! they get way out of hand!! think i'm going to heed Evil benny's advice/ suggestion place my "yamaha" powered v6 sho taurus motor in the exp.... I finally got the yellow kit for a fair price will post pics when it arrives because yes i am going to open up the sealed kit i'm also trying to get a blue one sealed... see how that goes..... heres the next one i'm after..... wish me luck! I see the custom front end on the box top of the yellow kit, on the side of the blue one, so that's not a new part. I have a blue one but not the yellow. I have always passed up the yellow assuming it was just the same kit I already had but with some custom stuff I wouldn't use. A lot of those old MPCs were like that. For instance I had the Bear Bait, later model Chevette. I wanted to build the earlier car so I kept bidding on eBay. I finally won one and what's different between the two kits? Two parts! MsDano85gt Posted February 12, 2014 Author Share Posted February 12, 2014 I'm certainly aware of that Tom probly idenical except for the front facia and some other minor parts one engine may be turbo vs. the other being non turbo, it was alot of the same like you said with other kits of the era i have many of the foxbodys they all share parts, the mini mopar dodge daytona chargers are all similar some years had different parts its all fun tho i'd like to build one of each version thats what its all about!! When a chain called ChildWorld discontinued models (back in that era) they put them all on deep sale for $2.50 a kit. I went to several of their stores and literally put a shopping basket under the shelf and just pushed all the models into it. The only ones I didn't take them all were the Revell '57 Ranchero with the chopped top! And they had a lot of those. I had at least a half dozen of that EXP. Then eBay came about and I sold a lot of stuff for big money! I probably sold them for $10 each! Which was quadrupling my money So I have one left in my collection. Mark Posted February 12, 2014 Share Posted February 12, 2014 The blue one is the '82 annual, the yellow one is the '83. I don't think there are any differences in the parts, except the '83 has clear parts that are tinted dark enough to use as welding goggles. MPC did that with a lot of kits from late '82 (when the '83 annuals appeared) through '84 or '85. I remember most, if not all, of the early production '67 GTO reissue kits having those dark windows. That was just a little aside, over the years I sold lots of kits that would bring bigger money today... early on a dealer friend of mine came into a hoard of mint condition, still in cases, models from the 1962 era. I bought an entire case of the Revell '62 Valiant customizing kit for about $20 a kit! And that darn eBay, I sold many of them for $50 each thinking I was making a killing. But it was fair at the time and I used the money to buy different kits that I didn't have. Those sparkling mint kits today would bring over $100 each! At least I still have the empty case! I picked up an MPC Toyota Supra from the same era awhile back...you can actually read "B F GOODRICH RADIAL T/A" imprinted on the windshield. Personally , I'd do it like the Renault R5 Rallye Turbo ; rear-mount (mid-mount , technically ?) and all . Faust Posted February 14, 2014 Share Posted February 14, 2014 Dude! Epic score on getting the yellow/orange EXP! It is, as you have read, the same as the blue one save the colour of the glass. The EXP's are lame looking and weak-driving; perfect abaassadors for what Motor Trend called "the era of lowered expectations". I am with you on loving 80's MPC's!! MsDano85gt Posted February 16, 2014 Author Share Posted February 16, 2014 didn't win the blue one thats ok tho i did get a factory seale d "wild breed " to add to my "sealed" stash of fox body mpc early foxbody kits..... tempo's were almost indestructable and would breeze thru the minnesotah winters as sure footed and with ease as could be! friend had one that was his grandma's a 5 speed manual car that car was sooo much fun!! Great over all kit can be built in a boreing stock form, or a more agressive looking stance with body kit front pieces the front look sort of resembles something of the dodge omni of the early 80's...... also a rear spoiler kit has 2 wheel choices can be build with N/A power engine or "Banks" turbo power nice crisp decal sheet there is quite a bit of flash that needs to be cleaned up, a few sink marks that will require filler to smooth out the body. from looking at factory ford brochures and the body in the model kit it looks pretty spot on going to enjoy this kit greatly as i do with any older mpc kit Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The only thing I didn't like about that kit was that one choice of wheel WASN'T those lame 4-dot wheels that were trying to be all Porsche 928. Those are the wheels on the 1/32 cars. I personally associate them only with the EXP, so it was odd that the MPC doesn't have them. The Revell does, though. I need to get one of those Revells... drat. If you take a look at my link in my previous post, you can see how the "wire" wheels look. They actually make the car look amazingly modern, which says a lot about styling and the effect of accessories! Congrats on the Wild Breed too. I need an MPC Fox-Stang, darnit... I have two SVOs, a Monogram 89 soft top and a Revell '79 Capri Turbo RS. One more and I'll have an IPMS-rules "collection" (that's 5 of something with a discernible theme).
