The WAAAAAA factor seems to be in play here!

"My model was better and should have gotten more posts than so and so's mediocre model!"

That is what I read between the lines!

It is not simple nor cut and dried there are so many other factors other than a great high detailed build and an average build.

Some just aren't comfortable on praising builds that are way over their heads.

Some have no interest in mediocre or average builds and feel they are beneath commenting on.

So it cuts both ways. Along with likes and dislikes of certain cars and certain builds.

It also goes to whether a person feels like going through an at times endless series of new postings. This depends on how ofter and how much time some one spends on the site!

Another is the title of the post!

Just like in the trade or wanted if it isn't clear what is there a lot of people will not even click on it!

I read through the titles and if it is a car that interests me I will open the thread. Some times I will comment and some times not. Just all depends on what I see and how I might feel even at times whether or not I post.

One thing "If I have nothing good to say or no real opinion I will say nothing!"

As for a "I do not like" button, just seems a little TOO judgmental. Don't like it? Move on and say nothing because most likely the builder could care less if someone doesn't!

It's exactly this I find counterproductive and plainly wrong.

- It happened countless times that someone pointed something out on my models he doesn't like. Something which I never saw this way and which would have never occurred to me if he wouldn't have pointed it out. Hence, a huge thanks to all, who pointed out what they didn't like about my models!

- This is a forum. Not a praise or sod off religious order. The purpose of forums is to invite opinion and debate, otherwise there would be no reason for their existence.

i comment on what stands out to me. someone said earlier that it might have to do with people being a fan of that builder, but i personally dont look at who built it before i comment. most people here could probably build better then me but i dont have the time to comment on every single persons post. plus (i dont mean to offend anybody) but if you see something you dont like you arent allowed to say anything about it, which almost leaves you no choice but to not say anything at all. while i always appreciate a good attempt im not gonna completely lie and say something looks really good when it doesnt. i would rather someone tell me they didnt like my build then lie to me and tell me it looks good even when i know it doesnt.

Or maybe (as someone said), it's just a matter of the member's interest in a particular subject matter.....? I go more by the number of views than the number of comments. I look at all the posts in my realm of interest, but usually only comment if the subject matter relates to something, like a particular vehicle or a modelling situation, that gets a reaction from me.

If one of my projects gets over 200 views but only a couple of comments.... so what? And I don't mind if the comments are negative..... hopefully I'll learn something from it.... even if it's only that the "negative poster" is an idiot....... (that's old person's humor!). I must admit that most of my projects are outside the general interest area of customs, rat rods, low riders and such, and I don't really expect a lot of reaction to my vintage vehicles, but at least a couple of you seem to like them and that's good enough for me.

Modelling is a hobby, isn't it? Let's just get enjoyment from what we create, and not worry that someone is better or worse than we are. And constructive criticism is something we all need, however perfect we think we are! I know that, even with over 50 years of average modelling skill behind me, I'm still learning from a lot of the members here and expect to continue doing so for as many years of modelling I have left.

Sorry but just have to note that those opposed to just moving on when they see something that doesn't trip their trigger as nice are the same that like to pile on as so to speak on certain threads!

If I based my participation in the "on the bench" and "under Glass" section of this or any other site on the responses to my builds I would have stopped building a long time ago.

Mostly, ya won't generally see a reply from me either way UNLESS.......................

I generally reply to topics that I actually have a knowlege of , say filling stations . Even then, if it's a car I have a solid working knowlege of and I can offer some friendly advice , I do . If it's a car/ truck I have a working knowlege of when it's completed , I might , but only if it NAILS ALL THE DETAILS ............

I post in 'Bench and Under Glass for the same reason (I assume) most others to- to show off my work. That way people other than myself and the people who come to my house are seeing it, whether or not they are posting. Praise, comments, criticisms- I've had them all posted with regards to what I'm building, and all have been duly noted. And I've picked up quite a bit from looking at other people's projects. But I tend not to worry too much about responses- I figure if something has a few hundred views, SOMEBODY's taking the time to at least open the thread, even if they aren't commenting!

I'm not an avid poster, but I will respond to things that I like, to ask questions, and to give advice when I can, but I'm just reading and looking most of the time. I'll probably come under attack for saying this, but it doesn't bother me, it's just how I feel. I post when I feel like posting and respond when I think approriate. I don't let it bother me. I feel the that most forums have groups that are made up of modellers who are very active in there posting. If you're someone with 2 or 3 posts you're not in the clique. For the most part if you post a model you won't get the same response as someone with 250-2000 posts. Some forums are worse than others. I think the worst one is finescale, especially in the aircraft forum. I've seen newcomers post amazing aircraft there and get 2 responses that say looks good or okay. Then one of the regulars slaps something together overnight and there are 14 pages of praise. Someone over there started a topic about this and the response was overwhelming, and people all agreed that if you were'nt part of the clique you wouldn't get much feedback. It is what it is. I like it here, I think it's a good healthy forum with tons of talent and knowledge. Like I said I don't respond to everything and I don't have a million posts, I don't have time to post everyday a few times a day. I have a hobby and I also have a fulltime job and a family that takes up a lot of my time. So, if you don't get a lot of responses to your post don't take it to heart. Just look at how many times it's been viewed, not responded to. Like I said I look more than post. Just my opinion. I've rambled on for way too long, good night all. Ken
