Not Very wise when it comes to nascar. any way wanting to do the 55 Chevy that was driven by Ralph Sr. all I can find are black and white pics. I've been told that it was all white, pale yellow with a white top.also were there any thing special for the interior beside the roll bar?

Also does any bady have any information on a red 55 Chevy that Dale sr. was suspossed to have driven? I say a small diecast of one it looked more pink but was to;d it was red just faded.

The Nascar dunny

Bob

Have a good one all.

Here are some photos of the actual pink #K2. There are better quality photos of the car out there, HOWEVER, they are of a not anywhere near accurate reproduction. Hope they help!

The pink paint scheme on this car came about EXACTLY like Petty Blue did...a mixture of white and another color. For Petty, it was blue and became a legend. For Earnhardt, it was red and became something only us diehards know about!

Note that the roof is a different color.

Bob, you can do a google search on Ralph's & Dale's race cars. I've come across some pics on there before. As for the photo of the pink Ford shown above, "Slot Car Fever Racing Reproductions" has a set of the #K-2 decals for sale (for about $5) check out the popular auction site... Hope you find something useful, Good Luck!

Kinda confused as to who's car you are talking about.

There was:

Ralph Earnhardt (not SR)

Dale Earnhardt (not SR, the media did that)

Dale Earnhardt, Jr. (yes, he is a Junior)

Not trying to be a wise guy, but that's their names.

Ralph's car number was 8 JR.

Dale started out in that K-2, then used 8 if he owned the car.

The white/cream colored 8 JR car of Ralph's was a '55 Chevrolet.

Guys, I don't expect anyone to believe me, they never do, but Ralph's cars were not white. You've seen how the pics fade and the colors shift. I built several for one of the guys that worked for the sponsor may years ago and Ralph's "55, Chevelle and Camaro was a light cream color called Almond.

And Dale's Ford was not a Victoria, the Victoria was a pillarless hardtop and Dale's pink Ford was a post sedan.

Ralphs car number was 8 while on the National Circuit, 8jr was while he was running the local short tracks. Same for Dale 8 on the national circuit, K-2 on the locals. (this was due to NASCAR not sanctioning car letters only numbers.

Trivia question 1: how did Dale come to have car #3

Trivia question 2: how many car numbers did Dale have total

Trivia question 3: how many car numbers has Jr had so far

I built several cars (from a '55 Chevy to a '68 Camaro) for one of the men associated with Ralph's racing efforts many years ago and they weren't white and neither were the real cars. It was a beige color called Almond and he sometimes painted the roofs with the fake vinyl and some times just flat paint that was black.

I don't know what "National Series" you are talking about because Ralph always liked to race on the dirt tracks close to home. He did run a few Nascar Grand National races But there were none through the '65 season with him driving a car #8. Here's the list as best I can compile it.

Do not use the car in the movie "3" for reference.

That car is totally inaccurate for the real 1960's era car, it was built just for the movie.

The most glaring mistake is the movie car has chicken wire instead of glass for the windshield, the real car had a glass .

This is a car that ran against Ralph at that time, it's a good reference to use:

Here is a good interior shot of another 55/57 Chevy that raced with Ralph's '55, very similar:

This is another similar car to Ralph's # 8:

As did this car:

Hope this helps.

Wow love the talk about Dale and his past. For car number's he ran you missed a couple, #74 that he ran for Petty Ent, as the Dodge test car and also Known as the Kit Car the you buy as a model called Pettys Kit car. This car was never and or driven by Petty him self. Dale ran this at Hickory and at Metrolina (not sure on spelling) Also he ran a car with the 88 and 17 on it. The 17 was Randy Sweet's car the he ran in the Klash here in michigan for two years.

Now for taking every thing out of books and movies please do not beleive every thing you read or see on Tv. The first thing I learn when I moved down to Concord NC was a lot of unknown history about this man and how every thing came about. I live with his child hood best friend name of Jim Burr. Jim grow up next door to Dale and also the first Christmas I was down there it was at his mother's place that is still next door to the Earnhardts and Danny and his wife also came over.

The true story about why the car was painted pink was to make a fool out of Dale more then any thing from his father. The story is that Dale and his father was racing at Metrolina one night (Dale in the 6cycl class and Ralph in the Modifyed class) Ralph had a way of showing his driving skills when he would win a race he would take a lap and drove one handed and wave the the crowed, as he did this he would also send the car into a 4 wheel slide to show he could handle it. The night that Dale won his first ever race he would try this instead of showing off he back the car into the wall. When he was walking back to the trailer his dad called him over to his car. Ralph would ask him " boy where did you ever learn some thing that stupid of driving from? Dale would say " I seen you do it all the time" Ralph " let me tell you one thing and always remember this. You are not ME!. Two weeks later in the gas station where this car was housed at also where Dale lived at (Upstairs from the shop he worked in) His dad and the car owner made a deal and was to get Dale out for the night. When he was out of the shop he dad would go into the station and pained it pink.

This was told to me by Danny and his sister-inlaw back in 1995.
