Lindberg F-150 Flareside WIP

Recommended Posts

Here's a Lindberg F-150 Flareside that I am working on...haven't touched a model in 25 years. Used to build in college and hung it up while life went on and decided to take it up again as I've got plenty of spare time while I dial-in to conference calls.

Decided to work on this as a break from staring at the 1/35th armor I thought I'd start and all of the stupid small photo-etched details that I feel compelled to add since none of those cool details were available to me during my previous modeling stint.

Haven't sprung for an airbrush yet so this is all 'rattle can' work and some finer detail painting by brush.

Decided to strip the chrome from the front and rear bumpers to paint it body color and also opened up the air intake hole in the lower bumper to make it look more accurate.

And here we go...

Not much progress to report as it's been WAY too cold in CO for me to spray the rest of the body...rattle cans and cold weather don't seem to mix well. I should be able to paint and clear the cab this coming week and get this thing finished. In the interim I did manage to get the tailgate polished but, for some reason, the decal carrier film still shows a great deal. I used both Micro-Sol and Micro-Set and cleared over them and you can still see it...any hints or tips are appreciated.

And some detail work done...here's the battery complete with decals that have been Micro-Set and Micro-Sol'ed. The 'Motorcraft' decal actually turned into a four piece decal when I tried to slide it off the backing. I've found that the Lindberg decals, at least in this kit, are absolutely horrible and tend to tear regardless of how long they sit in water. Took me forever to get everything lined-up on that one but it'll be coated with a semi-gloss clear and then I will paint the terminals steel and throw a '+' and '-' wire into them for some added detail.
