Moebius '56 Chrysler 300B custom *interior mock-up*

Hey all! It's been awhile since I started a new kit (waiting to get some styrene tubing for my axles on my '77 Dodge D100 replica build). I picked up this gem of a 1956 Chrysler 300B from the LHS a few weeks ago. I planned to make a replica of Rad Ride's car, but I'd like to do my own version of it, so I'm going to stuff a 6.1 HEMI in it from a Revell Dodge Magnum SRT8 kit, do some custom interior touches to modernize it, and add some Pegasus chrome Hella wheels (painting the face of the wheels to lower the "bling" factor). So far I tore open the kit (VERY nicely detailed I might add) and toyed with the parts. Then I glued some of the HEMI together so I could test-fit it and looks like it will be a very easy engine to add, though I am going to have to remove some of the top of the transmission as it hits the transmission tunnel. This will be a slow-going build since I'll be working on it while the other kit is on stand-by. Hope you enjoy!

Thanks all! Yeah, I didn't think about doing a test-fit with the firewall. I guess when I go out to get some styrene tubing for my axles on my other build, I'll have to get some white glue for dry-fitting the firewall and see where it ends up. I'm also trying to choose colors for the car. Right now I'm kinda stuck on a medium teal metallic, champagne and gunmetal for a color combo...but I don't know. When I go to Hobby Lobby I can look at all the paints they have there and see. I definitely want the engine parts to be a flat or matte finish. Hmmm...I guess we'll see what I come across. More updates will most likely come up later today!

Brodie, you will probably have to narrow down those wheels to get them to fit in the wheel wells, unless you somehow modify the axles. I only suggest this because I had to narrow the Pegasus wheels that I used on the Chrysler model that I recently finished. I had to take off about 1/4" from my front wheels, and about 1/8" from my rear wheels.

Richard,

What is your tips on narrowing the wheels like you mentioned to keep the tires looking right? Do you section the width of the rim or take it off the back side and what about the tires?

Well picking out the colors was a bust...I couldn't find anywhere with a decent variety of colors of Krylon (I refuse to use Rustoleum) so I might have to look on their website and see if I can order something.

And thanks for the tip Richard. I saw you did that with your car. I will have to figure something out because I am not a fan of skinny tires.

Andy, I used my trusty razor saw and cut 2 tread widths (about 1/4") from the front wheels and tires, and 1 tread width (about 1/8") from the rear wheels and tires. I cut off the inside edges (back side) of the wheels and tires and sanded the edges smooth. Once the wheels are mounted on the car you really don't even notice that they have been cut.

Thank you for the help I will have to try that next time.

Alright, I picked out the colors I'm going to paint this car...Duplicolor's Toyota dark green mica and Krylon's Brushed Nickel. Most of the engine (besides the transmission, heads and water pump area, which are all aluminum) will be the Brushed Nickel, which is a satin finish, and the "valve covers" will be the dark green mica with a custom touch. And yes, the engine bay will be detailed with a bit of wiring and will be nice and smooth under the hood. The car itself will be green and the roof will be the brushed nickel and will keep it the satin finish. The faces of the wheels will also be the brushed nickel paint. Right now I have a spare hood from a Callaway Corvette that I'm painting with the green so I can see the true color of it.

Got a few updates...I applied one decal to one of the valve covers (the kit came with one decal, I have another decal sheet on the way), I painted and assembled a bit of the engine, and found out the k-member is in the way of the oil pan so i'll have to modify it.

Just a small update: I modified the frame to fit the engine's oil pan, applied the other Chrysler decal on the valve cover and temporarily installed the valve covers on the engine using Elmer's rubber cement (awesome stuff by the way!). I've been dog-sitting the last few days so I havent been home to work on this much lately.
