Stoltz23
New member, first time poster here. My name is Phil and this is really the first model I have built since I was a youngster. I have been collecting models, diecasts, etc for years with the hope that some day I would have the time to get back into models. Well my girlfriends youngest son is into models and we got him a bunch of model related tools for christmas. So i figured it would be a good excuse for me to get some of my kits going. Most of the models that I plan to build are based on real life vehicles that my family or I have owned. So here is my stab at a early 80's bronco that my mom had when I was young. This is built from the Monogram 1/24th kit. I shaved the spare tire brackets from the back and moved the spare to the inside like my moms bronco had. That is about all the modifications that I had to do. I have some detail painting to do yet and am waiting on a resin snow plow kit to arrive so that I can add the snow plow cylinder and frame to the front. I was able to get the ford logo painted silver on the back and the bronco emblem on the sides to come out nicely however I am having issues getting the right detail brush to do the bronco on the sides and the Ford on the hood. If anyone has any recomendations on brushes please let me know. here are some photos of the real truck, thought i'm sure its long gone by now And here is what I have so far Here is a sneak peak of what is next once the Bronco is done, I'll contine making an ext cab dodge dakota into a standard cab to match on I had a few years back

mikemodeler
Just getting back into it, huh? Those are outstanding for being away from the hobby for awhile. Your girlfriend's son will hopefully pay attention to you when you are building and learn how to detail kits! Can't wait to see the Bronco done and whatever else you have planned! Stoltz23
Thanks for all the positive coments, this is really my first attempt at getting this level of detail, the suff i did as a kid was all either unpainted or painted one color with just the decals that came with the kit. I'm very happy with the outcome so far. As for the 1:1 dakota yes it had a 3" body lift and I cranked the torsion bars about another 1.5" and had an additional leaf spring in the rear. As for the model the trouble i'm having is with tires. trying to find an aggressive set that are slightly larger than the ones that came with the kit has been hard. Most tires on ebay do not list the sizes ID or OD. And I want to stick with the wheels that came with the kit, althought they are the 15" verson and my 1:1 dakota had the 16" version they look very similar and are the closest I am going to find. wraith
Click on my Power Wagon log in my sig. There are pics of about a scale 37' tire that you may be able to use. They can be found on a military toy from a cheap playset at Dollar General. I think they might work on your Dakota.

I alctually found the off road tire spreadsheet to be extremely helpful also. I'll check my local doller stores to see what is available. I was not able to see a photo of the military truck they cam from. Do you know what it was, jeep, truck, etc? Also were they chain doller stores? If so which ones? wraith
No problem! always like helping out! Dollar General is the store name .They are a franchise store so they are located throughout the country. The wheels and tires are on a 6-wheeled APC vehicle. If you can't find one let me know. I have a extra set right now and i just looked at one of the 3 stores in town and it had 3 of these playsets.
