Auto Transporter Trailer By Revell

Ill definitely buy 2 for sure. Maybe few just to stash

I know a few will find their way to my stash too! I might even buy a couple for my model building monster better half just to have more room for her finished builds, our entertainment center is overflowing with her builds!! :lol: I created a monster when I got her interested in building, she's put together more in one year than I have in 20!

Thought it was 1/24th as it is a RoG kit..

The pic Casey posted shows 1:25 on the upper left corner. Although I know some "scale Nazis" make a big deal about a few inches in real life difference between the 1:24 and 1:25 offering, it will haul both scales nicely. Also, this trailer is surprising strong. I have one that I got the last time it was issued in the box art Casey posted, and I had it fully loaded with a mix of diecasts and plastic kits. Photobucket is telling me it down for maintenance at the moment, but I'll post a pic of it when I can.

Really can't wait to grab another one of these....They have really great potential....

And I'd love to have another Beale tanker.....But I'd love them to issue it without chrome plating....Otherwise, I'd just grab one or two to trade for stuff.....

Here in southern California theres a few companies that use this style trailer to haul new cars, mostly higher end, Porche, Mercedes and so on from a rail hub to the dealer, nothing very far. Professional auto transport is 1 here that uses this type of trailer, bright yellow petes. A lot of owner operators use these too, for used cars mainly.

I think it's mid-1980s or so. Most of the new car haulers have racks over the cab & on the behind the cab as well. Although this style is still used, I've only seen them hauling used cars around here. Never new ones.

The kit was first released in late 1982 or early 1983, as a US Revell kit. At the time, it was very contemporary/correct, except for the fact that even at that point, almost all of the major new car carriers used racks on top of and behind the cab, as well as the trailer. They also used more "industrial" Class 7 tractors, not the high dollar Class 8 Peterbilts that the trailer was posed with (and that Revell also introduced at the same time).

Nevertheless, it was (and still is) an excellent and highly detailed kit, and it's great to have it back for those that didn't buy it the first or second time around back then. It would be great for a diorama with restored old cars in transit...TIM

What era is this trailer acceptable for? Is this the same as the ones they use currently? If, so this might look good behind a Moebius Prostar with a load of new mustangs.

As has been said it is and it isn't, but I personally think your idea would work fine, even though my personal taste would have it behind the Lonestar. I found this pic of a similar trailer behind a newer Volvo:

Also, since Photobucket is cooperating now, here is the pic of mine I referenced in my earlier post concerning the scale.

The entire bottom rack is all 1:24 scale diecasts, and the top center Impala is also a diecast. The only plastic kits on the trailer are the front undecorated Impala and the rear Crown Vic.

JT, those are fantastic prices for a Revell of Germany kit. I figured (in typical Revell Reissue fashion) it'd be around $100.

Yeah Jim, but just like the Pete wrecker Revell USA reissue, it was about half the price of the Revell AG issue.

Is this trailer based on any one particular manufacturer's unit, or is it more of a "composite sketch" kind of deal? Just curious.

Funny you should ask.

I recently wrote to Revell USA and asked what was the prototype make brand and model the trailer was based on.

The response was that they didn't know. No one currently employed at Revell USA worked on that project.

I then wrote Revell of Germany and the head of project development at Revell Germany said he remembered the original project.

He was directly involved in the kit.

It was first offered in 1983 and was developed at Revell, when they were located in Venice, California.

The masters were tooled at what was then a brand new shop in Denmark.

He said when Revell relocated from Venice to Des Plains, Illinois, the original documentation on the model project was lost.

He did say he thought the model was actually based on a number of different trailer prototypes.

The original kit was offered as a stand alone kit (7424) and as a combination kit with trailer and Kenworth K100 Aerodyne (7432).
