James, I like your choices! I wonder how the Revell NSX compares to the Tamiya version.

I'd have to compare them myself. I have the Tamiya Honda NSX-R which is the JDM only factory "tuner" version of the regular Honda/Acura NSX kit. The Revell kit is one of the "high end" Snap-Tite kits they did in the 90's that were aimed at the dividing line between kids and adults that have full (albeit simplified) engines, and have since lost their Snap labels. The '92 Caprice Police (them Taxi/Fire), that eventually became the '94 Impala SS kit is another example of that "high end" Snap-Tite line. The NSX from Revell has 59 pieces, the Tamiya has 91.

Incidentally to anyone who's interested Tamiya markets it as a Honda NSX, but the kit still includes all the LHD parts and decals to make an Acura. Meaning you can buy the current in-catalog kit for $25, rather than trying to track down the limited export Acura NSX kit for a ridiculous price on eBay, just be aware the Type R kit does NOT have any LHD/Acura parts as the 1:1 Type R was not exported out of Japan.

Dropped by the old HL today to pick up some Tamiya masking tape and some Tamiya Q-tips and a sharpie and saw a MPC 67 GTO on the shelf that had been unwrapped, so upon inspection I noticed a couple minor parts were missing so I proceeded to check out and asked what kind of deal I could get, got it for ten bucks I believe I have some parts that will work just fine. Someone must have bought it and brought it back, don't know why they put it back on the shelf instead of clearence, but oh well my good fortune HUH!! :D

Today I got a new professional title! I had been putting off going for the International Facility Management Association's Certified Facility Manager exam for a bunch of years because of horror stories of people failing the five hour exam. I've even taken the prep course twice. Well today I got past that fear and took the test. And I passed. So now on my business card it will say "Tom Geiger, CFM", which is a big honor in my industry.

And it should help me a great deal in my current job search! Anyone need a Certified Facility Manager?

Congrats, Tom and good luck with the job search!

Geoff - I'm curious as to how the kits are overall...how do they compare to the Revell and Tamiya for example?

Haven't got round to building them yet, but a good look at the parts and the instructions makes me want to get round to building them sooner than I had planned, the Tamiya '66 Beetle which I built a few years ago looks a great model when built, but I did have a few problems with it, what I don't like about Tamiya kits, and this is just my personal view, is the simplified interiors, as with the Mini Cooper, Citroen 2CV, you don't get any seat frames, and some other interior detail parts are just not supplied, now with the Revell versions you get a lot more interior detail, o.k, other items like wheel hubs and brake detail are a little more basic on the Revell models, but lets face it, you don't see at all once the model is put together, where as you do notice the detail in the interior, especially if the model is a convertible, like the Beetle Revell has just released, I will do a Tamiya-Revell comparison once I have built the Revell versions, but if they build up as good as the 998 MK1 Mini Cooper did, then they will both be cracking models

I picked up a few things at Sundays show.

66' Nova Pro Street, 55' Chevy Pro Sportsman. Had to get them after seeing the pro street cars at the show. Coke machine and Tool cabinet from Scale Modeling by Chris who is part of the Detroit Resin Automotive Group, great bunch of guys who do some amazing work. I got those for a garage diorama I want to build this winter. I am sure I will be getting more things from them.

A Tweedy Pie 2 Kit in a bag for $5 couldn't pass that up after being inspired by the Tweedy Pie in the show.

I'll probably pick up one or both of these anyways...still need to get the Tamiya 66 as well...got too many projects that I absolutely want to build first, but you never know!! I'll watch for your builds whenever you get to them!

You got that right, Tony. If you're an IPMS member, sign up for the Reviewer Corps and get FREE models.

I might have to join IPMS...hmmm... :)

We had a really good deal with the Florida Auto & Scale Trucks club (FAST). If a FAST member paid the $25 to join IPMS through the chapter, they got a Jeep CJ7 kit right away and then if they signed up for the Reviewer Corps, they got more free kits. So do the math - $25 annual IPMS dues minus a Jeep kit ($20.00), minus 6 kits a year ($120), and you're way ahead of the game.
