  1. Jon, fortunately nothing came off the model, the fenders were painted separately but one of them fell to the concrete floor thus inflicting damage to the fresh paint. I just need to bite the bullet and get those threaded nipples that Donn uses and someone else here suggested the base that they screw into. Either that or one of those model holder spinny things I see everyone use. Good thing I work crappy hours today and tomorrow. Gives me all afternoon Monday to fix my screw up. Glad I'm just getting this out of the way as my next project is the one I'm really looking forward to, but shhhhhh, don't tell any of the Murphy gang.
  2. Well it was such a beautiful day today I decided to take my '32 Ford outside to paint up the body and fenders. There was no wind, birds were chirping, sun was shining, what could go wrong. Started painting and all was going great. The final few coats were going on and it was really looking GOOOOOOOD. Then I look down and Mr Murphy decided to toss a baby gnat into the wet paint. Right on top of the hood. To add insult to injury just moments later his brother Frank decided to puff up just a tiny bit of wind and knock one of the fenders onto the ground from the table. Yep, right where it shouldn't had. So what's the moral of the lesson? Don't forget about Murphy's siblings. So I will wait till the paint is done drying, sand and repaint and pray that the color blends and all the Murphy's stay away next time. Can anyone throw out some suggestions on the best way to deal with the spot sanding and repainting? I'll get some pictures here shortly of what I'm dealing with. Thanks.
  3. Those did come out nice. They are wide whitewalls. I will try the template thing on my next project ('49 Merc)
  4. well that would explain things then........<goes and bangs head on wall>
  5. So let me ask you guys this, what's the advantage of decanting from cans vs buying the little bottles and thinning? What brands do you guys normally use when you decant and what kind of results are you getting with said brands?
  6. Well I'm a truck guy, always have been and as long as gas stays below $5 a gallon always will be. Here's a few of my beauty blue!
  7. Just finished putting the white in the whitewalls, but I'm wondering if I should make it semi-gloss? I think that would give it a more natural appearance. Gotta wait till the paint is dried then I'll shoot some pictures and post them. Man, that was a tedious job. Painted each tire with a toothpick and used the capillary method. Anyone have an easier way of doing that for the next time?
  8. I was very blessed to have a wonderful wife who, I kid you not, is 10 years older then me and she started at a young age. I have a 3 year old grandson too! It was a blast saying I was a grandpa at age 31! I bought the "Pa-pa" hat right away!
  9. Any tips you can add to it? Sounds like you had a devil of a time. I mocked them up and was thinking the same thing.
  10. Well another slow update. For some reason I'm just taking my time and in no hurry with this build. Here is the engine. A little more detail than the last one, but not anywhere near what some of you guys produce (going to get into wires soon). Really took my time on the fan belt. Man, that's a pain to pain just right (and yes I already see a touch up I have to take care of in the morning)
  11. Well the thing is I'm still debating on the color scheme, thought I would get the "hard" part out of the way first so I can think of how I want it to look. Red would look nice, but so would blue, pearl blue, or burgundy, but I think I'm going to use that color for the '49 Merc that's up next. Thanks Donn, you have been an inspiration to my work. Out of curiosity are you going to any of the conventions in the mid-west anytime soon? I know there is one here in KC in June I think.
