george 53 Posted March 10, 2012 Share Posted March 10, 2012 Harold, Modelhaus does a full length bed with the bumper tailgate an tailights for about 20 bucks or so,maybe a bit cheaper, but with S&H , about 20 bucks. Anyway, it's probably the cheapest way to get what yer goin for, cause ALL those older MPC kits are gettin more an more expensive, an you may not get all the stuff you need from a built-up, or a gluebomb. The Modelhaus' resin cast parts are excellent, and if you combine them with the most recent issue of the AMT/Ertl '78 or '79 Lil Red Express pickup you'll have much of what you need, but not all. Modelhaus offers only the 6-1/2' bed, not the 8' longbed. My $.02- buy a complete unstarted orignal kit (not the Ram Tuff monster truck version) and enjoy it. After you spend $21 for the Modelhaus bed, another $10-$15 for the Lil Red kit, plus shipping on both, you're almost at $50, and you probably will still need more parts. I think this truck would would be a no brainer for a reissue. I don't know if it's just a rumor or not,but I have heard they were working on reissuing the '60s Ford pickup. If we let them know that there is a substantial interest in the Dodge truck,they may just reissue it. This topic has been hashed out before. The molds for this truck went through extensive changes over the years, updating from one year to the next and it eventually was turned into a full scale monster truck with largely radiused wheelwells and such. The only way to reissue any of these older kits would be at great expense to convert the mold back into a useful, stock appearing truck, which is not very likely. Also, not to rub it in to any persepctive buyers having to pay huge prices for these kits, but I picked up the Thunderstruck kit and the the 75 version a few years back at a swap meet/contest for $5 each. Both complete and buildable. The deals are there. You just have to hope that one day you are the one that gets to it first. Actually, one would a suprized at just how much of the stock truck really exists, even with the alterations. The cab, bed, and frame are still pretty much stock, with the exeption of the hood and the removal of the side trim. The wheelwells were not altered (I just checked them against a known stock kit), and most of the monster truck parts are either on separate trees or on trees that contain parts that still exist in stock form on the LRE. The wheel wells are the same, All the side trim was removed off of the bed. You may be thinking of the Lindberg Newer Dodge Monster truck which is different. Soo the Longbed mold should still be good somewhere. BTW: h3ae86 Depends on how bad it was put together. Heavy or light glueing. Having had a actual 79 in the family since 1983 and still is and always will be, these hold a very special place in my heart.
