Why do people do these things?

Recommended Posts

I get a call from the place I store my cars for the winter. Telling me I need to come in because they had a break in. well I knew it couldn't be good. I show up and my heart sank. I guess since they couldn't steal anything because no batteries and fuel shut offs they decided to smash the windows out of the 51 dodge and steal the ram off the hood. They left my camaro pretty much alone except for stealing the radio. Why do people have to trash things? I got to think it was just kids/teenagers because I wouldn't think adults would do something like that. If I can say anything good it's just flat glass so it won't be hard to replace.

You could literally write an endless book on what people do and trying to explain it. Some people are just not right - whether it's from nature or nurture or both, they just don't function in a society. I had somebody vandalizing things and set off a bomb in front of my house. I still don't know who or why. It just started, then stopped. Idiots, imbeciles, however you want to label them. Fortunately, most of humanity doesn't act this way - we just don't always notice good deeds because they often go unseen.

Because they can, thats what it comes down do, they know for the most part, they can get away with it, and the sad part , most of the times they do, and even if they are arrested, 9 out of 10 times, slap on the wrist. I know how you feel, I have my vehicles broke in to since I started owning them, it really does suck, sorry

Sorry to hear what you have suffered at the hands of some idiots hands.

A friend's pro street Nova got trashed like that. They had went in through a small unit that someone had moved out of and not told the office so they could lock it.

They piled stuff from the dumpster and pallats from a business next door and scaled the wall going through an 8" space between the wall top and the roof.

They managed to get into 12 units in all but could not get anything out so they trashed everything they could.

My friend had a video camera on a loop set up in his and it even had sound.

You could hear them trying to come up with what to do to the car next.

They even peed down the carbs.

All the while one kept repeating "boy is this ahole going to be pissed off ha ha ha".

Over 15,000 dollars damage to the car. That is what the insurance paid out to him.

In one of the other units they trashed a 1 year old Peterbilt and in another destroyed 100's of dollars worth of hand carved antique German made furniture.

4 kids 17 the oldest, 13 the youngest.

Judges remark to the injured parties? "kids will be kids!" put them all on two years probation and ordered to make restitution which he set at a minimum of 100 dollars a month each! he refused to make the parents responsible for restitution for the damages.

Very sorry to hear your troubles Dave. Kids should definitely receive more severe punishment for stuff like this.

I was driving a 1959 Dodge Coronet from 1996 through 2000 when I stopped driving due to vision loss from mild strokes. I was making it a mild, bolt-on Custom. I left the car home, parked at the curb one day, and took our other car to work. When I got home I noticed that I left the driver side window open. I went to close it and found that someone (kids) had thrown a dead fish (actually a baby shark) on the front seat. It sat in the hot sun all day and practically baked onto the upholstery. There must have been hundreds of BIG black flies buzzing around in the car. It took me weeks to finally get the smell of that fish out of the car...

At a cruise night a couple of months later some kid walked by my car with a friend and I overheard him say to his friend "Hey, I know that car... It had the fish thrown in it..." I promptly confronted the kid, asking him how he knew about the fish incident. He said he knew the kid who did it...!!! It turned out to be a kid who lived about 2 blocks away from my home. My FIRST thought was to go beat the BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH out of the kid, but I knew that would only get ME in trouble. I wound up calling the Police and filing a complaint. I spoke to a Detective and said that I just wanted them to go to the kid's house and confront him and his parents. He said "We don't really handle these things like this." I said, "Hey, I'm trying to be a good citizen and handle this the proper way... If you would rather I take matters into my own hands, then you may not like the way this turns out..." He wound up going to the kid's home and confronted him and his parents as I requested.

My daughter, who was in the same school as this kid, came home one day telling me that this kid was pissed that I had the cops go to his house.... He said that "he got SO GROUNDED by his parents". My daughter told him he was lucky he only got grounded.... because I wanted to KILL him......!!!

Kids need to be held responsible for their actions and not just get a meaningless slap on the wrist.

Sorry to hear you got hit. The sad truth is that some people find as much satisfaction in destruction as those of us here find in creative pursuits. I don't know why. I do know that some folks are indeed born bad, and no amount of 'nurture' or 'tough love' will ever get through to them. Mindless destruction comes in many forms and is a symptom of a total lack of respect for other people and their posessions, as an extension of zero self-respect. Responsible and compassionate behaviors need to be taught to the majority of humans, and if not, this is what happens (along with tragedies like the recent school shootings).

When I was in high school, the football team organized a fundraiser that involved charging a dollar to hit a nice old '53 Buick Roadmaster with a sledgehammer. The fundraiser was a smashing success, the line to get a whack at the car ran for a couple of blocks, the car (driven in, running fine and in decent condition) was totalled, the laughter and 'fun' were a large part of the event, and I was sickened by the whole affair. I could just never understand the desire to destroy.

I have had stuff stolen in the past. Worst was my 2 month old Tri Z 250 years ago. Small comfort but I always figure that these punks, bottom feeders call them what you will at sometime in their life will have something nice and it will be stolen or smashed up and they will feel what we felt when it happened to us. Or maybe they will get caught someday and rot in prison.

Well I got a call from the folks that store my cars they have video of the guys/kids who did it and they have a pretty good guess who did it. I don't know what will happen but it looks like someone will be punished hopefully

tie them to a pick up truck and drag them around some dirt roads

Sadly my dad has his truck broken into, mind you it was in broad daylight right along side a busy highway. It was rush hour, and where he had his truck parked is where the entrance to a daycare was and people were right beside the truck. Well he seen them right as they were leaving because he seen his tools in the back. It was adults that stole the tools.

On the 15th of December, the Post office claimed they delivered a package of model car 'stuff' to my mailbox. Now, I was home that day, saw the mail delivered from my front window(10 feet from my mailbox) and immediately went out and got the mail, within 20 seconds of it being delivered. Their 'investigation'claimed it was stolen from my mailbox, case closed, not their problem.....So, someone hid around the corner of my home, sprinted to my mailbox, stole a model car size box from my closed mailbox, and got out of sight in the 10 second window of time between when I saw the mail delivered, and the mailbox was in my sight again....yeah;.......RIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT !

Way back around 1972 I lived in an upscale neighborhood with my parents. I had a pretty nice Cal-Look bug, which got parked outside every night. Come to find out that one night EVERY bug in the neighborhood had it roof smashed in. If you know bugs, you know how easy it is to jump up and down on the roof and crush it. Mine was thankfully spared. It sitll amazes me that mine was the only one......dont know if they ever caught the little morons, but after that mine was garaged. People, sheesh! And dont get me started on "tagging" or "keying". Back in my day "keying" meant you were gonna change your locks.

I once came out of my high school to find the drivers side window of my truck smashed out. Luckily, they took my bowling ball (I had a league after school that day), and left the Ipod that was sitting in a tray in my dash. It honestly made me sick to see something, even this small, happen to the truck I had put countless hours of work and care into. Even though to most people it is still a beater, I was ready to kill the idiot who did it and then some. I didn't even bother reporting it to administration, since the city is so scared of pissing off the gangs they would have just let it go anyway. At some point it just seems like you have to take matters into your own hands, but then again I'm sure I would have ended up with the heafty punishment they deserved. It really sucks that things like this have to happen, but that is the reality in to today's world, no respect for the possessions of others.

Are you kidding?

The answer is obvious, you have accrued more possessions than you should rightfully have. Success to any degree is the Devil.

The thieves are merely trying to redistribute what should have been theirs' in the first place.

You owed those cars to the thieves.

2 cars in storage, oh my god how UnEuropean, how UnGlobalOrder, how UnNew American, how UnSocialistic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you had only rightfully been taxed more in the first place, you never would have had them.

What?? You say you were raised by caring loving parents and to do something like this would never even occur to you? Sucker-r-r-r-rr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That was the America of reason and compassion. The America where people had kids because they wanted them. A long gone era.

Your parents obviously also had too much time on their hands not to completely ignore the responsibility of having, caring, loving and raising you.

It is all your fault, maybe even your parents fault, not that of the thieves.

Why is it that the criminals who commit this type of crime do not conveniently shoot themselves????

Where is the National Public Outrage??

Maybe we should ban Public Storage Units. Certainly this would stem the flow of crime and protect us all.

Dang right CadillacPat, that really is how kids see it now adays. A lot of the kids I go to school with can't understand how someone can have enough money to own a few nice things, and even more they feel like they should have them to for nothing! It amazes me to know end how angry kids get when someone makes a bunch of money by working for it, and they just demonize them for what they have earned. You bring something nice around, chances are it will get stolen or destroyed, and nothing will happen about it. It's sad but true.
