rollinoldskoo
just got this resin body and kit from twinn in the Layitlow model car section... i really gotta say that it seems like every resin body i've gotten from twinn has been better and better in casting quality... rollinoldskoo
here's what u get when u buy... body, interior tub, bench seat front and rear bumpers, and grill... this would be the easiest kit to find to use for the chassis, radiator parts, motor, etc.... but any 1/25 scale AMT/ERTL or MPC elcamino kits would work.... REVELL or MONOGRAM WON'T this is the IDEAL kit to use as a donor (if u get lucky and find one). there is also a monster truck version out here also... rollinoldskoo
test fit of the chassis shows its about 1/4 inch too long....
rollinoldskoo
after looking over it for a while i got a plan of attack for shortening it... my first thought was to just take a 1/4" out of the middle behind the transmission crossmember but then i saw that the floorpans and interior tub kinda interlock and if i cut it there it wouldn't line up and sit right... rollinoldskoo
here's what i did..... made the first cut right behind the dip in the floopans..... then one more just in front of the rear axle trailing arm mounts..... removed the middle section leaving the frame together and cleaned it up.... rollinoldskoo
next i cut the rear section off... put the two sections together and mark off where it needs to be trimmed... remember not to cut too much.... its easier to trim more than have to fill it in later.... rollinoldskoo
worked out pretty good.....
rollinoldskoo
cleaned out the rest of the flash from the windows and started to fit up the interior to the body.... u can see how i grinded out the inside a bit to get the interior snug.... Simon
Nice project. I was guessing that you would cut where you said, right behind the tranny crossmember - just as well you checked the interior tub fit first! I'll be interested to see this one come along. Howard Cohen
That looks just like the Perrys Resin Malibu wagon..is it a clone? The wheelsbases on the 1:1 Malibu wagon and the El Camino are not the same...I believe there is a 4 inch difference.
