'67 Mustang conversion kit

Recommended Posts

:D Hi I am doing a 67 Mustang GT convertible to match my 1-1 car. I got the 67 resin hard top from (motercityresin.com) Jeff makes a great hard top. I got the boot from modelhause and the doner kit is the AMT 67 fastback. Maybe we can talk Jeff into doing a convertible for us.

Hey Rick. I tried to Google that and it doesn't work. Are you sure you have the whole URL there?

Pat

Never mind got it. I think I'll order one. Probably easier than what Tom suggests above.

It was a copy of a friend's '68 I was building, I ran into some issues that I couldn't figure out then (he had extra tail lights in the rear panel) which I now know what to do with the trim. So I do have to get back to it. I just dug it out and have taken a few photos for your reference. This project has been sitting so long it was before digital cameras!

I have about a roll of prints of the original car. My friend ran an entertainment business and this Mustang convertible was all done up as a clown car. He had the car done that way a long time, before it was considered valuable. He died a few years ago and his wife gave the car away. Hopefully it got restored. Three reference shots for you at the link above. I noticed that the '67 rear seat and side panels should work for a convertible. The seat is very narrow and the fastback had what could become convertible top bow pockets. You could ask on the board what kit's boot would work on this application. Heck, I could use that info too!

Good luck

 Hi good luck it will be much easier plus with the 67 the trim around the trunk and the taillights is deferent between the fastback and coup/vert. I just remembered I send Jeff pictures of my car so he could see how to do the rear dog legs. I have not cut the top off my kit yet I holding out to see if he does the vert. LOL! good luck you will like his kits I have a couple of his and I have a couple of the 68 coupes that Kevin at Missinglink makes both nice kits. Now that is a kit I would like to see someone come out with in a nice 3-in-1 like the old days.

Hey Rick, what do you suggest I use for the boot? And the snap trim around the roof opening that the boot snaps to?

 Hi for the snap trim you can go with small evergreen plastic strips you will have to go to a hobby shop for them and look at the deferent sizes and as for the boot I got my boot from modelhaus I used the 66 boot it's the same in the models and real cars. Funny thing about that snap strip when I was restoring my 67 I could not find that trim any were no one make a repop of it I was ready to burn the car but I found a guy in Texas called Mustang Mike he showed how in an you tube video that the trim was the same used from 64-1/2 through 68 the only thing is you had to use the 66 boot because the snaps were in a deferent spot so I did and it worked perfect and no one can tell the deference. Good luck.

Received the '67 coupe body from Jeff today. Looks real good!. Looked into the Fastback box. Everything I will need is in there except: an auto matic transmission/shifter, the boot (discussed above) and GTA stripes. Anyone knows about aftermarket GTA stripes and what kit I could cannibalize for a Ford auto trans and T shifter?

You should be able to use the Mustang stripes and print this image for the emblem. I made some stripes for a '67 Fairlane conversion that I have been working on for a while.

The convertible rear seat is narrower than the hardtop and the 1/4 trim panels are different too.

I imagine that would have to be reduced. how do get it right?

Make it fit the open space in the kit stripes? I really don't remember what I did for the Fairlane. I did save the image as a .png so that it could easily be resized without losing resolution. Again, Keith Marks makes the GT and GTA stripes as part of his 67 Mustang decals if you just want to go that way. Does the 1:1 car have the deluxe interior?
