Air Compressors

Recommended Posts

Can anyone tell me anything about the testors mighty mini or the transparent blue air compressors. I am going to third shift soon and need a cheap quiet compressor for the basement. (can't wake up the family in the middle of the night). I have a paasche vl airbrush and only paint model cars. I need to know if one of these will be sufficient. Thanks Christian Hartness

Christian,

I don't know anything about the Testors Air Compressor, but in my opinion, I would not buy one. For about the same price, you can get any nailgun air compressor...anywhere between $100-150. And you can get them with a 2 to 5 gallon tank attached to the compressor. They usually have a moisture trap and a regulator with it. When I'm doing work at night and I need to be quiet, I fill my tank up beforehand and do any airbrushing that I need to do. In the long run, these types of air compressors are usually less expensive and don't have a tendency to burn up.

Hope this helps.

Christian,

Pep Boys and Harbor Freight tools, sell an air tank that you fill with compressed air at the gas station or with your own compressor. Its the quietest thing you will find. I know other modelers use this type of air system and say it works well.

These are not usually very expensive. and i think they come with a pressure gauge, you will need to hook up a moisture trap. This is just another option for you to consider.

Good luck.

Ron
