using bleach to strip chrome plated parts

Recommended Posts

bleach takes a while (1 to 2 days)and sometimes it won't take it off all the way..Easy Off oven cleaner works great..i have been using it over 30 + years..just do it in a vented area and wear gloves..in about hrs or so wash off in warm water and scrub with old tooth brush then if it don't all come off DRY IT and spray again..it also works great on removing paint , just takes a while longer..the only problem i had was i left it on to long and it kinda etched the plastic..and also remember all plastic is not the same and the older the paint the longer it takes..

I use Mr Clean lemon scented kitchen floor cleaner. I pour some in a small glass container, add the parts, and wait over night. When I come back the parts are clean and the silver has completely disappeared. Then I put the Mr Clean back in it's container.

No awful smells or bad chemicals to touch. Works great every time!

Used some cheap stuff I bought at Dollar Tree, for yep $1, and overnight it stripped the chrome without damaging the plastic...Is called Oxygen Orange and is advertised as a degreaser/cleaner in a spray bottle...it will take paint off, but it takes a LONG time for that to work...several days, maybe even weeks, I just haven't let things sit that long...but for chrome, it worked great...
