91blaze
Where can I find a 1/25 or 1/24 scale turbine engine like that out of a helicopter. I know about the Turbine car, but all the ones I find are really expensive. Are there any helicopters in this scale or any resin castings? Also, are there any jet-type engines in this scale? Fat Brian
Someone is trying to trade a 1/24 Huey in the swap section, maybe you can pm him and see if the kit has an engine. The T-53 from the Huey has been the primary source of the jet turbine engines used in jet vehicles. Ma's Resin also makes a Turbonique style rear axle jet turbine that was used in drag racing in the late sixties and early seventies. http://public.fotki.com/cnaind/1500hp-turboaxle-kit/ Edited June 17, 2012 by Fat Brian
91blaze
Thanks, but it looks like that guy already found someone to trade with. I found some of these kits on Ebay so I guess I'll go that direction unless I can find a cheaper option.
Fat Brian
You can still PM him and ask about whether it has an engine at all before you buy one, also check out the link I posted above.

dptydawg
The Revell 1/24th Huey does have a jet engine and gearbox. Revell is re-releasing the kit this year, so they should be available at a reasonable price. There is also a jet engine included in the STP Lotus Indy turbine car kit. That is the kit with the Wheelhorse garden tractor in it also Carl
Harry P.
I think the new Polar Lights Batmobile (the full detail glue kit "deluxe" version) includes a jet engine as an option. You could snag the jet engine from the Batmobile kit for your project, and use the other engine included in the kit to build yourself a really cool model Batmobile, too! 91blaze
Thanks Harry, I'll look into that.
Crazy Ed
John both the MPC Lotus Indy Turbine or "Can Am" have Turbines in'em. Both can be had now and then for <$20.
1320wayne
Another suitable alternative that I have seen used is the Revell Star Wars I pod racer kit that comes with two engines that resemble what would be seen as a jet engine. Or there is the most extreme suggestion and that is to get good ref. shots and scratchbuild your own, which I have also seen done.
91blaze
Thanks for the ideas everybody. And to be clear, I'm looking for either a helicopter or jet turbine.
Art Anderson
Excuse me, but are you looking for a turbojet (or turbofan) engine, such as is used on jet airliners, military combat aircraft? Or, are you looking a gas turbine engine, which uses the torque from the turbine to drive a shaft, geared to a reduction transmission, for driving say, an aircraft propeller, helicopter rotor, or a transmission for use in a wheeled or tracked land vehicle? There are some differences: Jet engines use the thrust from the combustion chamber combined with turbine blades moving clear air around the outside of the engine to push an airplane along--those are what get used in so-called "jet dragsters" for example. Gas turbines on the other hand, use turbine engine technology to do the same thing as a gasoline or diesel piston engine, provide the power for a mechanical drive system. I understand the differences between the two. Thanks for the ideas everybody. And to be clear, I'm looking for either a helicopter or jet turbine. Crazy Ed
Hi John I understood what you said which is why I suggested the Kits I did. Both used Turbine Engines that were used in Helicopters.

Don't worry Ed, my posts were not directed towards you, there was some confusion among others about what I needed. Thank you all for the suggestions. GrandpaMcGurk
John....I think this is probably what you are looking for? It's the turbine that's in the R/M 1/24th Huey kit. I adapted an automotive trans in place of the helicopter trans and stuffed the whole thing in a Monster Truck chassis with 4-four wheel drive. 91blaze
Yeah, when I start the project the Huey engine would probably be the best option. I just wanted to see what else is out there. BTW, that monster truck looks great.

tim boyd
Here's another one no one has mentioned so far...it's the engine from the AMT "Turbosonic" (not Turbonique as I wrote earlier) Rear Engine Dragster kit circa 1973 or so. I used it for the Turbine powered drag boat shown here....and also shown with the cover project car from the May/June 2012 issue of Model Cars Magazine....more pictures at this link : http://public.fotki....ats-/page5.html Thanks for looking...TIM Edited June 19, 2012 by tim boyd
91blaze
Is the "Turbonique" kit rare or something? I can't find any info on it.
tim boyd
..91 Blaze....my error, it's the "Turbosonic" dragster, not Turbonique as I said earlier (above post has been corrected). The kit is rare, but not super-rare. One came up for sale today, in fact, on that popular auction site. Might want to check it out....TIM

Ace-Garageguy
There is also a gas-turbine automotive engine kit, quite highly detailed, available as a vintage Revell Parts Pack. It doesn't seem to be in very high demand, and I've seen it pretty cheap on ebay. The Huey Lycoming engines were rated from about 700 to 1400 shaft-horsepower, while the Lotus indy ST6 was a development of the Pratt &Whitney PT6, and was rated at only around 400 shaft-horsepower, if I remember correctly. It is also much smaller that the Huey powerplant, so that may influence your choice. For what it's worth, the Johan Chrysler Turbine Car has an entirely different turbine design (which was rated at only about 150 HP), but it comes complete with an automatic gearbox.
