REVELL 359 hood to AMT 359 cab?

Recommended Posts

Nope. I'd advise that it would be far harder to make the hood fit than it's worth.

Note that the AMT (red) has a hood that slopes where it meets the cab. You can see the slope on the cab here. The Revell's is basically flat.

Making this Monogram (currently Revell) snap kit into a daycab was really as simple as cutting the sleeper off with a razor saw, filing the remaining joint flush, and making a rear panel with a backlight (window) hole in it. If you cut the panel just slightly over size, you can use a large fine file to fit it in perfectly, no filler putty, etc.

If you are going to sweat the rivet detail, you could cut the rear panel from the AMT cab and use it. But why bother?NOBODY has noticed that this cab lacks the rivets. I added a piece diamond plate over the resulting flat spot where the sleeper was, but that could be eliminated too with a little more work. I concur.

The AMT cab has the correct arch to the top of the hood and cowl. The Monogram/Revell hood and cowl are more 379-ish, thus flatter and the hood shape won't match the cab. The snap hood is also wider at the grille.

The fenders however (from the snap) work great on an AMT hood to correct AMT's too short of fenders. It ads the front of fender bracket/step too. You will have a clearance issue when the hood tilts however.

Tim,

The depth of your knowledge of all things "Pete" never ceases to amaze me.

I'd never thought to use the snap kit fenders. I've tried to scratch build them and given up more than a couple times.

Now to hunt down a couple snap kits and get some "back burner" projects back to the front.

Doc

The only thing wrong with the fenders is the same thing that Revell USA/Germany and AMT got wrong.. they all molded the rear fender step at the bottom of the fender. The step is supposed to be about 3 inches up on the fender. I have started to cut the step off and relocate it.

You can see at the bottom of these two photos the correct step location.
