The building will go out on loan to AAA California . If I get time tomorrow , I'll throw out a few more .............. They already start to restore some parts like the nose is done after a $300K job... It will take 3 years and $4million to have it fly again. In the past you could (mostly kid) climb on it and play in it during the stop a the gas station. After they close it because is to dangerous and it is falling a part. I toke this picture last year during the Bomber Cruise In... There is The Bomber Restaurant too, good food, this is the menu. And a lot of picture when it was used as gas station. And on the other side of the parking lot there is a little museum, with toons of cool stuff, plus part for teh B-17. And the Bomber Burger with the "secret weapon"!!! I'm guessing from the description at Historic Portland, these things used some kind of gantry-elevator mechanism? This would be a very cool way to display plenty of cars in a somewhat limited space, even if you just did one side. Anyone have pictures of the elevator from this or something similar? From what I understand, something very similar to this is still used in Manhattan and perhaps one other area of New York City. If anyone has more information, please share. Eshaver Posted February 1, 2014 Share Posted February 1, 2014 Charlie , I've kicked this station around as the lady I write for is from the area where the station in Florida resides . Pretty much, one could build the "Skeleton " using a series of "Shaped " Foam core strips and suspended temporarily using florist wire . The rest of the photographs show two different buildings . Still, they both employ the Foamcore and suspended Florist wire . I use Polyester Fiberglass to cover the skeletons when I'm satisfied that the Foam skeleton is reasonably close to the shape needed . I use Automobile filler, aka Bondo to fill the imperfections . The first building is The Zep Diner that was in Hawthorne California , a south central city that was merged into the L A county years back . The second building is Quality Oil #5 in Winston Salem North Carolina . Thankfully, this building was at least restored to it's former glory back in 1995. The last building is the former , The Fish Inn , a wooden structure built around 1928 in Core de Adeline Idaho near the Washington border . This building suffered a massive grease fire in 1992 .
