I've read in a thread of Dave that there might be a Rommel's Rod at the LHS, probably i've understood it wrong, (which can happen, since I am not a native English speaker, it is the 3rd language I learned ) but I did some searching on the net and I found somewhere that somebody mentioned the Rommel's Rod in the Revell 2009 catalogue,

Can anyone please tell me if this is going to happen? I understood long time ago the molds got recycled to something else and therefore it can not be made again. So this news did excited me a little, but I just want to know if I should not put my hope up high.

I'll bet the guy that currently has a bid of $225.00 on E-Bay is going to feel REAL STUPID a year from now.

;);)

To be honest now would that really be a fair assumption.

If the guy bidding is a collector he may want an original kit.

As an example would a collector want my original AMT Munster Koach box with a grey plastic kit inside? What is that kit worth in, A original condition, B a recent re-pop, or C a mixture of original box & re-pop parts

How many on this board think it is a great kit from a modeling perspective rather than a nostalgic thing?

I will surley build one of the new kits but only for those nostalgic reasons as there are vitually no usfeull parts for kit bashing other than to build other light hearted themes.

Yes it was a great kit in it's day and holds lots of memories, tooling up for something like this must be made to pay for itself so is it a limited eition of say 10,000? with views to re pop at a later date?

If I was a collector I would want the original.

If I collected Picasso paintings I would not really want a copy

Much as I love Tom Daniels designs I don't know if I would build the Taxi other than for similar reasons. Barris's Bathtub again, I would not build but might buy only for the engine

If I collected Picasso paintings I would not really want a copy

Just thoughts, John

My LHS owner showed me the new Revell catalog with big glossy pics of the Rommels Rod and Tijuana Taxi, as to gauge my interest. After seeing my face, he said, "I'll have to get a bunch of those."

Along with those two were also getting the Red Baron and the Bathtub Buggy. Here's a scan from the 2009 release flier.

I'd rather have a new customizing kit of a real car. Like a '57 Buick Century two door hardtop!

The shows rods aren't really my thing either, but I built several of them as a kid and there must be enough interest to bring them back. Considering how profitable reissues are I can see why they announced them before another new tool. That's just good business. Even if they needed repair or some missing parts replaced your still looking at way less investment then all new tooling.

So assuming Revell does well with these and considering their recent hits with the Custom Merc and Nova kits I think we can still bet on seeing some new tooling in our future and I'd love to see a '57 Buick as one of them.

Too cool. I can see I'll spend some money on those Lola's. Snap or not, they seem to be a good subject for a simple diorama if the driver comes with them. I love the vintage race cars like that. Too bad I was a couple generations late. I also like some of the show rods like the Taxi and have been tempted to get a Rommel's Rod. Thanks for the heads up.

Just a guess, but I'd wager the snap kit mentioned is the 69 Camaro, as the Lolas are 1/32 scale & pictured with the "Monogram Model Racing" logo, along with Mario Andretti's 1967 Daytona 500 winning Fairlane in 1/32 scale as well.

Sorry to bring bad news!

Too right. Missed it. Oh well. I'll save some money then.

Ditto here as well. I'd take just about anything from the 50's and earlier. The 60's and 70's wild show rods do nothing for me. The Red Baron might be tempting for nostalgia reasons, I did build one as a kid and saw the 1:1 when I was a kid, but most likely I'd just buy it for the few parts it has that would be good for kit bashing. The Tijuana Tax might be good for that as well. The last new or resissue kit release that really got me excited at all was the '32 Sedan and '49 Merc, so it's been a while and looks like it will be a while longer.

The Showrods will always have a place in my heart and T.D.'s stuff has always been great, excessive, automotive fun. The Rommel's Rod shown in the link was most impressive. I've had a lot of fun weathering some WWII stuff lately, it's addictive and the RR should be a fun one to "beat up". I'm really looking forward to it and the Tijuana Taxi, chalks and oil paints ready.
