59 chev

I built one as a kid, I think maybe I was 12. Toughest one I'd ever done but it came out well and I was sure proud of it. I got around the chrome scraping nightmare by using Elmer's glue. Really. I used to use it on everything but engine halves and basic subassemblies. If I wanted to change a car later I would just soak it in warm water overnight and presto, a "new" kit to assemble!

Really looking good, Harry! The tank and plumbing detail is awesome.

If it would help, I have a nice high quality scan of some 1/8 scale gauge faces that scale down nicely to whatever size you need, printing them on glossy photo paper works real well. they are a complete "street rod" type set of speedo, tach, oil pressure, fuel, temp and amps in both white face and black face. I'd be happy to email you either a Photoshop file or a jpg if you'd like, just send me an email. Tim

Wow. Not only are your models beautiful, but so is your photography! How about a photo of your photo setup?

I'm with Harry on this one, most of the metallic paints I have seen seem very out of scale, and the car ends up with that "70's ski boat glitter" thing happening. I wonder why the paints aren't more to scale, it's certainly possible to grind metallic particles that small. Anyone know the answer to this?

Nice build. Really love the choice of colors. And nice job on the BMF, that trim at the bottom of the window is tricky! I'm in the middle of building a '56 Del Ray for my brother, a replica of one of his 1:1 cars, using the older Revell stock-only kit. (The burgundy / white paint box art) Did you have fit problems with the firewall on yours?

It was the attitude I sensed here that prompted me to register. I've been on a couple of other boards But I became afraid I would Make a mistake when Commenting and run afoul of the many rules and regulations that you were required to remember. I just wanted to talk to other model guys, not enlist again ... And before asking a question, I would spend so much time trying to use the barely-functioning search feature to make sure that the answer wasn't already there somewhere that I just didn't ask.

Harry, I may have beat you to the '59 Chev after all, your avatar is a photo of my first car! I spent many happy hours polishing that bronze and white paint job. Wish I still had that car. And the '54 Chev, the '65 Chev, the '57 Star Chief, the '63 F100, the '65 F100 ...

Thanks for the tip, I'll check out sources. I'm having a ball discovering all the "new" (to me, anyway) stuff that's available. Back in the day I had to carve my own masking tape out of wood, after walking three miles in the snow to get a knife ...

This may not be news to some, but it was to me! I picked up some Scotch "Artist Tape for Curves" at my local craft store, works great for masking off curves. It is 1/8th inch (3.1 mm) wide, stretches around curves (within reason) without wrinkling or pulling up and leaves a clean line. I've been using the yellow Tamiya tape and it works great, but this stuff beats it on curves.
