It's really well done. Recommend you contact him for further details - his ad is usually in the first few pages of the mag (each issue).... btw.he doesn't have a web site....I would imagine Gregg will get a sample soon and can show you the full details. jbwelda Posted May 13, 2012 Share Posted May 13, 2012 looked to me like someone (gregg maybe?) got pretty good results undercoating the flake body with silver. i would still want a regular kit though for all the other parts. that upgrade kit from norm looks great but he should have made a dual port intake manifold. small thing but especially where the motor is hanging out in the breeze like the manx its gonna be seen. i think the dual port head came out in 66? but i know the single port head went instantly obsolete from the DP introduction. And you are right about the dual port heads, somewhere about 66 on the type 3 engines, not until 71 for the type 1. Those manifolds look to be dual port to me . jbwelda Posted May 14, 2012 Share Posted May 14, 2012 they look like they come to too small a Y for dual port to me but either way they are appropriate. i would think the webers would be underutilized by a single port head though. interesting they introduced the concept on a type 3 before the upright motor. totally off topic, i saw a super kool type 3 Ghia on a car transporter the other day. really really nice from what i could see. i was wishing i had my camera with me. I had one, let it go like an idiot Yes, the manifolds look more like a single port, but they will work with this set up, and if they were small Webs, like 38's, then not too bad Biggest I ever ran on a single port were 40's, but that was bog central This is just a start though, so let's get ready for some more great aftermarket parts soon. jbwelda Posted May 18, 2012 Share Posted May 18, 2012 (edited) >The kit's engine is a 40-horse, so it would have had single-ports edit: jeez i wasnt thinking right when i posted this...so i am gonna edit it: uh yeah unless they were replaced with dual port heads... i used to run those kadrons too, and they were pretty easy to keep in tune and in sync. i modified a uni-syn to sync them and hardly had to ever do it once they were settled in (actually i modded it to sync the carbs on my 356b)...i used aluminum dual port intake manifolds which were sweet, the steel ones that came with the carbs were not so sweet and kept coming loose and leaking air but also throwing the carbs out of sync even when you tighten them back up. the only problem i ever had with them was i kept getting tiny bits of grit in one sides air correction (i think it is) jet and it would make the motor run bad but all you had to do was pull the jet out of the side of the carb and blow it out and it was back in fine shape. took me a couple years to figure that out. then dellorto dual throats were thrust upon the american VW market and they never ran worth a bug if you ask me, finally i went with dual dual throat webers with smaller venturis and that was the setup for me. by that time i had a 1667 (? maybe it was a 1776...) gene berg motor that was pretty bulletproof and put out the power (all things are relative)...this was through a series of bugs, 2 karmann ghias, a porsche 356b and then a 356c cabriolet (both these had stock zenith carbs...now that i think of it i think the b had solex carbs) and finally a Thing which i had for 20 years and still miss to this day. I have a Michaels close to me, what brand of paint is that? It really looks great and I've been looking for something like that for quite a while, especially if it brushes on. I have used some of the different craft acrylics brand's and found some different techniques that work, it always does seem to be somewhat of a delicate paint though. I have some of that Martha Stewart sparkly paint in orange, I actually got it to do my dune buggy that I wasn't getting the best results, turns out I was missing the corresponding base coat color.
