I bought my 10 year old brother a couple models for Christmas and told him we can build together, so we started this Revell '55 Ford F-100 Street Rod together. It's his 1st time building so we're taking our time and teaching him how to paint/glue/read instructions. Anyways, model is being built box stock, but he wanted it to look "old". Everything besides the body looks new and shiny, body is rusty and dented. He painted the truck sky blue and I misted it with Rustoleum rusty metal primer (red stuff). This helps give a base rust coat. So far he has done excellent. Paints way better than I did at 10. Here's a shot of the cab with some weathering work in progress. Chasis: 1st engine my little bro painted/built. Used Testors acrylic and had really good results. He used black acrylic on the suspension too. I put the dents in it, I just took a lighter and held it a few inches from the body until the area I wanted to dent got soft. After it had softened up a bit I used random tools/parts and used them to dent or crease the body. Very easy to do, I've done it with candles too, actually prefer candles over lighter. Paint on the body is done. Sky blue with rusty primer dusted over it. Right now I am weathering it and giving it the correct colors and shades of rust using oil pastels. Hopefully the little guy can come by this weekend and we can get the rest of the little things painted up and done. Then onto his shelf.
