Rob Hall
Anyone have any idea what a trailer like this was used to haul? On a car forum I'm on everyone is trying to figure out what it is...
Corvette.Jeff
my guess would be to haul oversized loads, thats just a guess though.
Scott H.
my guess would be to haul oversized loads, thats just a guess though. They're used to haul the HUGE dump trucks and cranes that the mining companies use. There was a TV show on not too long ago on how the dump trucks were built and it showed one being transported on a trailer almost exactly like that. The wheels / tracks of the load actually hang off the sides and the trailer supports the load by the frame. That way the load sits lower on the trailer and the truck can go on the roads without having to have power lines and such removed. Hope this helps, -Scott H. Edited December 6, 2008 by Scott H. Corvette.Jeff
its kinda like a lowboy then? how the front comes off just back up whatever your hauling on the trailer then reconect?
Scott H.
Sorry for the slow reply. I just saw where you had posted the question. The TV show I was watching showed cranes loading and unloading the vehicles from the trailers. I don't think the fronts separated from the trailer, but since it was a TV show, I can not be 100% positive on this. With the weight of the load they were carrying, I honestly do not think they would be 2 piece trailers though. What I would honestly suggest is doing a search for mining equipment and see what you can find that way. -Scott H.
