his is idea I've been tinkering around with for quite some time... I do a little here and a little there. For some reason I got some motivation to put some hard work into and finish it. When I went to Georgia to hang out with my buddy Earl who is an outstanding model builder I came back with a ton of models and ton of inspiration. Earl gave me as a gift this peterbuilt kit and I said I wanted one so I can try to learn all about scratch building that I can. So I bought a mess of styrene and started cutting and cropping and then this pickup truck idea popped in my head and I started going to town . Out of all the forums I've been on I've only seen one other person try to make a Pete pickup truck and he never finished it so I took a stab.

The bed isn't done yet I still have trim and putty work to do. The tail gate isn't finished yet also it's gonna have opening tailgate with pins to keep it shut. I need to get some singles instead of duals. I put duals all way around right now so I can get the pictures. Let me know what y'all think!. Thanks

Cool... i plan on doing one myself to... just need to find the bed from a 41' chev and an extra set of snap pete fenders along with another snap pete.

Yeah man I chose to scratch build a bed cause an 6 or 8 foot bed is to short. It makes the truck looks squished. So I built a 12 foot bed out of some 60

What a great project. For some reason when I looked at the first photo all I could envision was a Black truck with J/D logos on the door and the back full of wooden whiskey barrels. Which is odd as I am not a J/D fan or drinker

Looking forward to more progress and what you dream up next.

Its coming along awesome. The scratch built bed makes all of the difference. Certainly better than sticking a stock chevy or ford bed behind a pete cab. The only suggestion I have is, I would rotate the fuel tank so that the flat part of the mounts are down on the bed floor. If you were doing this 1:1 you would want the tank mounted to the frame rails rather than the back wall of the bed. Good luck with your build!

Old buckaroo - that j/d Idea is sick! Wish I would have thought of that lol but I may twist that idea a little for the next 'out of box' Pete project lol

Superpeterbilt - Thanks alot dude for the suggestions. The only reason why I put the tank there is cause of how the tank was molded. It already has the straps and step for that position. I've never removed chrome before so I didn't want to mess it up but I definitely like your idea and wish I would've done it. I should have the interior finished tonight and I'll post pictures. Thanks

Lol That's true... I have alot more accomplished on this just haven't had time to post images and progress report... hopefully will do by this weekend.... I never did like the pickup conversion on a Pete or a Kenny unless it was a made bed like I'm doing... hopefully this will come out better than my expectations... Thanks looking. Check back shortly for updates

earl is real good people. and makes nice airlines for trucks

Earl is awesome... I met Earl here on modelcarmag and I bought a truck from him and we got talking on the phone about building stuff and he sent me a mess of pictures and such and he really inspired me to start scratch building cause I was always a box stock builder with really slight custom as in different wheels or a motor swap so to make a long story short I said what the heck and I drove from Jersey to Georgia to learn some scratch building and got a best friend out of it to!!!
