55 on a diet

This was also a partial kit given to me by my SIL.

This kit was evidently a gasser kit.

i had to make a new front end and come up with a grill.

I thought the car was 'fat' looking, so it has been sectioned 1/8 inches thru the center of the body.

I was asked at the time how I painted this and I referred to the WIP fotos in my DPMCC Fotki. Which kind gives the general idea to the process. I still haven't mastered the true fire technique to my satisfaction. Probably because the pioneer of this technique, Mike Lavelle, used many layers of candies, which I was disinclined to invest in. I use 1Shot sign enamel. Also, I can't seem to steer clear of the traditional flame licks. ;)

Your flames look great!!!

Have you looked at coastairbrush.com?

They sell the HOK colors in very small quantities.

I've seen guys use Auto Air transparents as well. First they lay down transparent white, then shoot transparent red oxide over that. Then they shoot another set of flame licks over that using transparent white. Then they go over the white with transparent yellow. Then they mix the white with a little yellow and create hot spots.

Richard Markham used this process in the black vette in the following gallery:

Either of these might be worth looking into.

However, you created an awesome flame job with 1 shot!!

I'm always amazed how much better builds look in a diorama setting like Geezer's Garage, especially when they are finished. I'm going to have to put a "Big Gary's Garage" on the build list. I makes a great backdrop for photographing finished cars/trucks, etc.

Great job on the '55 Geeze!

Gary
