dodge L-700 semi

like the title says, i finally got started on my dodge L700 tiltcab semi

it came as a kit with a busted up ford and a flatbed trailer.

this is definatly a challenging kit to say the least. it is my first and very likely last lindberg kit

the instructions are not very good, the parts ar not numbered and there is massive flashing on the parts.

having said that, it is a fun build never the less.

as far as paintsceme goes i will go with a flatblack frame, red cab, tan interior and green engine :P

here are some pictures of my progress

and just for the heck of it, what it would look like with a hemi

HPIM0311.jpg

i am going to go for an older look, like the truck has actually been out on the road for the last several years, so a slightly weathered paint job, bare metal showing on the steps and maybe even some rust

i know it didnt show well in the pictures but the engine is pretty nasty, i think it might be sweating some oil (it is a dodge afterall)

this is my first dodge truck and my first semi in a long while so as always, comment and suggestions are welcomed

Eelco, look, that dodge was an old Industrio Motive Company kit from 1966. I M C kits were ,even in their day ######. O K ,I said it Heck, they even made some Pyro and Auroura kits look pretty tame even when these companies were still around. Meanwhile Linburg bought the old tools. It is not their fault that the pieces wont fit. The kits that Linburg has done : 61 Impala,66 Malibu, 53 Ford and their Ford Model T's at least will go together well. Linburg takes a bad rapp cause they bought alll of the old I M C -Testors-Union molds. Now this is not to say that Linburg aint put out a few turkeys . One kit that comes to mind would be their 1932 Ford Pick up street rod. I don't think they coulda got that onto the old Ted Mack amateur hour television show. So look gang if in doubt , ask one of the Dinosaur model builders , like me fer instance !

it reminds me of my drums

they are made by a company called pacific but sold under the DW name

in all honousty, they are junk, not worth the wood they are made out of

as a result i refuse to ever again invest a penny in anything DW

not per se because i had a bad expierience with DW but because i believe your standards are only as high as the worst thing you allow your name to be stamped on.

i kinda feel the same way about lindburg i guess

i understand they are not too blame for the lousy tooling BUT they did decide to put thier name on it.

having said that, i cant deny i dont like the challenge this kit poses

Everything said above is true!

However, persevere!! A little TLC and some adjusting, the finished model is pretty cool.

I canned the kit's doorhinges and mirror brackets. Scratched my own.

The 40 Ford is correctly depicted on the box art......JUNK

i just wish i had test fitted everything before painting

it looks like i might need to trim the doors and repaint them in order to open/close decent

No, the 40 alongside the garage is way older. It was a bagged kit (?) and the body and fenders, apparently, were from 2 different manufacturers and didn't fit for beans = junker :o

However, I did just post that Lindberg 40 yesterday in the under glass section. 40 Salt LSR

Like I said, I gave up on Lindbergs hinges for that truck, and scratched my own.

i just mocked up a few of the rims to the chassis, does it look like it is not level ?

i mean, is it suposed to look like that ?

the front end seems to sit lower then the back ?

Mine sets that way also. I really don't know if thats typical of the 1:1.

Notice that the first step is level.
